Ducks We better be on the phones with Anaheim...

Anyone else hoping this is the case?

#1 - Jonas Hiller

#2 - Viktor Fasth (*lower body injury)
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=112977
#3/#4 (Both studs) - Frederik Andersen/John Gibson
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=111711

These guys have a TRUE goaltending glut. No way they can hold on to everyone.

im be extremely disapointed if we JS-Giguere'd this like last rebuild. We have plenty of goaltending prospects and until Berra, Ortio and LB get a shot with our defense 2 years from now then it would be a mistake to make a move for a goalie.

This is year 1 of a 5 year rebuild, get over it.

Hiller is a Free agent after this season, no thanks.
Fasth is a free agent after next, so you're trading a guy for one year. No thanks.
Andersen isn't going anywhere.
That leaves Gibson - a 20 year old prospect. Given we have a glut of prospect goalies ourselves, why give up assets for a lateral move?

Exactly. Plus Gibson has all the potential to become a stud as well. The Ducks will not trade him.

All of this is nothing new, Anaheim has been a starting goaltender producing machine for as long as I remember. Giguere, Gerber, Bryzgalov, Hiller, Fasth ... and I'm sure Andersen and Gibson will turn out just fine too.

Flames are going to give the full year to Ramo, Berra, Ortio, ect. The only way they don't is if massive injuries swipe through flames goalie land.

I also think that come the off season they will be looking for a starter for next year.

This is year 1 of a 5 year rebuild, get over it.
Why does a rebuild have to be 5 years?

It doesn't have to 5 years. It could take less and it could take more.
But it sure as hell isn't done in a single season.

Why do you think a rebuild takes 5 years, we are not the oilers, 3 years OK!

Edit- sorry just read the post a couple above, didn't mean to pile on...

Gibson isn't going anywhere. He's one of the very best goalie prospects out there, and likely their goalie of the future. His first pro-season so far and he has a 1.44 GAA and a .955 S% in 8 games played with the Norfolk Admirals.

I will be shocked if Gibson doesn't become a GOOD starter in the NHL.

Look at the morons running it.

Unless Burke is taking over right now pushing out Feaster/Weisbrod we likely have to wait for a new regime to come in and turn it around and that will take at least 5 years.

Looks like a normal goalie situation in Anaheim rather than a glut.

Hiller: Pending UFA. Probably not worth acquiring in a deadline deal. Maybe worth signing to a short term contract in the off season if neither Ramo or Berra look like a clear number one goalie.
Fasth: If he falls into our lap, great. Ortio, Broissoit, and Gillies are at least a few years away so if he can be acquired for cheap, we could do a lot worse than a tandem of Fasth and one of Ramo or Berra for the next few years. Wouldn't give up too much for him though.
Andersen/Gibson: Probably untouchable at this point. Both are on ELCs through 2015-16 so there's no problem for Anaheim having one or both in the minors over this time if the alternative is trading them on unfavourable terms.

Just my two cents.

You can't count on any one prospect when it comes to goalies. You just can't. Young goalies emerge and disappear then re-emerge all the time. I'm glad they keep a few talented prospects.

I just don't understand the "rebuild" attitude. We have a good team that works hard and can win, in my opinion, a lot of games if we get some decent goaltending. Why dismiss the opportunity to get a better goalie for the sake of a "rebuild"? We are good now, let's go.

Frankly that's the fantasy of fans of many bad teams: "if only we had goaltending." I'd say it's almost never the case that a goalie would turn around a team like that.

I think the goal is to win a Stanley cup, not barely make it to the playoffs at best.
