Didn't mean anything insulting by it. You and I had gone back and forth about MacDonald in another thread and I knew you were a big fan of his. I assume that because you've been posting here since 2002, you are a Flames fan. Therefore, I assumed you were sad that MacDonald, who you think is a good goalie and like, appears to be on his way off your favorite team.

You also brought up Tim Thomas as a "late bloomer" goalie and offered that perhaps MacDonald would be the same (has the tools, just needs longer to put them all together).

I don't see many tools from watching him play in Detroit and NYI. He always seemed slow and poor to react to the play. He does seem to make a lot of spectacular type saves but those seem to mainly come from him being out of position so much that he is forced to turn what should be routine saves into highlights as he recovers.

In his time with the Flames he showed flashes of brilliance zero times that I can remember and I don't even remember an above average game from him.
Great sum up of MacDonald here. Almost all his stellar saves are because he was either slow going laterally in the first place or just totally out of position, so he had to make a desperation move that for the most part, didn't work, but when it did people remember.

He's good at angles and fairly steady with rebound control. His feet are probably the slowest in the league, and his side to side movement is bottom 10% as well. His bread and butter is being in the right spot for the first save, after that, it's all luck for him.

Fine, but you understand how that looks like, right? The way you phrased it?

If you didn't mean it insulting, you should had said something like, Muta is probably sad that MacDonald is on waivers. Not... Muta is sad. These days, that insinuates like my opinion, as a person, is sad.

Nevertheless, thanks for coming out and clarifying. Appreciate that.

See? Not necessary.

Sorry man, I don't know how you were insulted by that. If a player I genuinely liked was waived, I would be sad, and I would think everyone who saw a player they enjoyed go on waivers would feel equally sad.

No need to be a dick and call someone a bad poster just because they thought it was OK that someone assumed you should be rightfully sad over seeing a player you like get waived.

As far as Mac goes, yeah, I saw him play before he came to Calgary, you're not an expert on Joey Mac. We'll agree to disagree because I have never once seem him show flashes of being 'elite'. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Well, considering I've seen him more than you have, I have a better read on him.

Hartley didn’t rule out Berra making his debut Sunday in Chicago, which would have to be considered the deep end of the initiation pool — the Stanley Cup champs at the United Center.

“We’re not saying yes, we’re not saying no,” Hartley said of Berra’s potential deployment. “I’m going to sit with my partners, either on the plane or tonight, and we’re going to decide what’s best.”

Jesus. Talk about trial by fire.

Surely there's an easier way to blood a new goalie than to throw them to the wolves against Chicago IN Chicago but with no defenders capable of clearing the crease.

Ramo will likely get the start. I bet Berra gets the start in Minnesota unless Ramo has an outstanding game in Chicago.

I hope Ortio lights it up in the AHL.

Berra has not impressed me thus far, those expecting him to come in here and be the saviour are in for a disappointment.

Perhaps they want to throw him in the tough game and use first game in NHL as excuse rather than having Ramo with potentially another 4+ goal game.

Not an easy game for either guy and plenty of reasons to keep both out of it. Great game to have MacDonald around to eat the goals against.

Sounds like we are throwing in the towel on the rebuild.

Bryzgalov would be better than Ramo, Berra and Macdonald combined.

Did you hear a rumour about Bryz coming to the Flames at Orange Julius too?

Bryz to the Flames would be one of the worst moves in recent memory.

Perhaps, but they're not going to sign him to be a stepping stone to the prospects, which is what those three guys are.

How is waiving a 33 year old MacDonald so the younger guys can get some games throwing in the towel on the rebuild?
