Even if we took Brodeur we would still be looking for our next goalie right now. This process would be happening one way or another. Might as well grin and bear it.

For a million dollar salary when they are no where near the cap? That would be an awesome use of a compliance buyout!

I appreciate that people have a different opinion than I do which is why I haven't resorted to personal attacks against those with a different view than me unlike others in this thread. Never once here have said people can't/don't have different views from mine so not sure what the last part of your post has to do with anything.

Well at least you admit you assumed. Not sure what the last part of your post has to with anything, I am glad you do recognize other people have opinions outside your own.

Good numbers and they actually improved today. Still, that only barely gets him to the top-10 in save percentage at the moment. Don't know how he's looked but he's getting the starts and the other goalies in the system look like 7-year-olds.
Off topic, but it's hard to fathom how a first-round pick like him got only 12 games with the AHL team last year. Plus 6 NHL games. He played 18 games last season!

Because he's not a good goalie.

I wouldn't know. Didn't really get to see him. Strikes me as odd to sit the young goalie for an entire season when you have so much invested in him.

They only have until this summer to use their 2 compliance buyouts, and right now it looks like they're not going to use them.
Using it on MacDonald opens up a contract spot and the owners pay 1/3 less than they would.
Just a thought.

Well, when he was called upon, he pretty much sucked.
No surprise he's not in the league any more.

I've always heard some odd things about Irving. After his brief NHL stint last year, he had eye surgery. One of the biggest flaws in his game when he played during the shortened season was his ability to track the puck. I really have to wonder if that actually did something or him.

I thought Irving showed at least as many glimpses of potential as I've seen from Ramo. I think the Boston Massacre forever tainted the way management viewed him. I would hope they wouldn't be too proud to consider giving him another chance. Unfortunately, given the way he was used in Calgary & Abbotsford, I don't think he'd consider returning to the Flames.

I didn't think the Flames would go this route so early in the season but MacDonald came into camp not in great shape and wasn't in the coach's or GM's good books from the start of the season. Hopefully another team picks him up if only to stop the goaltender door from revolving and force the team to play with the players they brought. Hopefully Gillies is the real deal as if not this team is going to have to look at trading for a starting goaltender at some point unless Berra can come in and run with it as Ramo to me doesn't look markedly better than MacDonald.

Nik Hagman is the leading scorer in the Finnish league.

Yeah, I liked Irving and hoped he succeeded, but you can't trust Euro league goalie numbers, they just play the game differently on the big ice.

I knew Flames will either trade Joey Mac or send him down to AHL sometime like in the 3rd quarter of the season. I didn't think it will come this early. So, now that we have the Ramo-Berra tandem, I sure hope everyone around here will be patience with those two. I also hope the Flames will stay with them and not trade for any other veteran goalie. This season is the best time to see how the young guys will pan out since it is the first year of the rebuild. I think we will see 2 games for Ramo and 2 games for Berra on this 4-games road trip.

I hope this too. Berra Ramo in the NHL, Ortio Brossoit in the AHL. Then we'll really know what we have. I don't think many of these guys are in the long term plan anyway. However, I could maybe see a Gillies Ortio tandem being the future, with Gillies getting the lion's share.

On the other hand we also likely would not have traded for kipper.

I questioned his commitment to the team when he showedup to camp in atrocious shape. You think you'd want to be a little quicker and be not so sluggish in net. You can really see it when he was trying to recover from a nice big rebound he'd give up. Its not like Berra is going to do any better though.

I appreciate the effort he gave us, but still don't think he should have been re-signed in the first place. Just didn't make a whole lot of sense with what state the organization is at.
I also know that we need veterans to teach the young guys, but MacDonald never seemed like a guy suited for that role.

He didn't come to camp in atrocious shape, Feaster's comment was that they had hoped he would have gone to another level in his conditioning.
