I don't know if you watched the clip but there were 2 of them, more than 2 actually.

And in what world are refs not allowed to stop a fight in which one guy doesn't want to fight? Refs aren't supposed to stand around and watch one player jump another.

Thanks I did not know that.

Still seems rather cold to just stand there with your hands on your waists doing nothing while some guy who doesn't want to fight is getting his butt kicked by a bully.

"just following orders" i guess.

I'm just going to put it out there, I bet puckluck2 has never been punched in the head. "Lethal" is a bit over the top.

The ref looks really bad in that clip. Not only does he do nothing to stop the fight, he even puts his hands on his hips while Holtby is basically getting assaulted by Emery. Pretty embarrassing for the league IMO.

Love the goonery, and what else do you expect when Craig Berube is the coach.

I hope the Flames start adapting this style as well, if teams are going to win, well then they better be ready to pay the price.

You need to send a message to the other team.

I like fighting and loved the Anaheim-Flames brawl from 10 years ago but what exactly is the message that Philly is sending to the Capitals here?

Hey you can score 7 goals against us but if you do our goalie will jump and cheap shot your goalie and we may have some fights as well?

What exactly is that going to do next time the Capitals play the Flyers?

What an absurd message to send. Thankfully you're not the Oilers coach or your team would brawl every single game.

So you're only qualified to make that judgment if you're been punched to the head? That is very strange.

Strictly speaking it's true. You can kill someone by punching him particularly if it's unexpected. In general people underestimate how much damage they can do. If you're a big man, you can kill someone with your fist.

Maybe you just haven't been punched hard enough yet?

It's not this particular game but just overall frustration of losing a lot and losing 7-0 at home. Gotta take it out on someone.

the brawl itself was fine. What Emery did was nuts and the league needs to step in.

Why do they ban punching in the back of the head in MMA?

I understand taking out their frustrations I just don't think it sends a message at all to anyone.

As an added bonus to this thuggery, we'll get to listen to HNICs take on this. Ron Macleans typical defence of the ref/linesmans, even though they were in the wrong. Don Cherry will check in from 1952. Healys non-sensical ramblings that have nothing to do about the topic being discussed and PJs take on the situation from when he was a scrub NHLer. Good times ahead.

You forgot that Kevin Weekes should be there to add in his insight that there was a fight and some guys were involved in it.

you guys need to remember that the officials first priority is not the saftey of the players (which is a very close second), but rather the safety of themselves. There is a reason they dont try and break up fights in full swing but rather when they have died down and only in a coordinated manner. If the one ref in the video had attempted to get emery off of holtby, he would be putting himself in a dangerous and vulnerable position. The best thing for him to have done is to step back, keep track of everything that is unfolding, and wait for his partner to come in order to break it up. The question for me is where was the other man?

That was great! Way better than the WWF! At least we know the players in the NHL don't hop in the same limo after their game!

If boxing, MMA exist then fighting can exist in hockey. Hockey is a hybrid game and the players sure blew off some steam!

I'm sure these fights really sent a message to the caps not to run the flyers' stars. Oh wait.
Then dont watch.

Flyers were obviously frustrated , a lot of chirping in a blowout loss escalated into a bunch of fights. It has happened before , will happen again. Emery was being a bully which I'm not a fan of , but I thought it was going to be worse after reading some of the reactions here. The other fights were good.

Emery went a little nuts there, but other then that it was an entertaining line brawl.

Not sure if the dramatic outrage is really warranted.

I think emery will have to answer for that regardless. League discipline or getting his bell rung either or.
