GAME 18 : Calgary Stampeders at BC Lions
Last game of the regular season and it's pretty much a nothing game for both teams. Calgary already clinched first place in the West meaning they will have a bye on the Semi-Final game and they will host the Western Division vs the winner of Saskatchewan and BC game. The only thing important in this game is the CFL Rushing Title and the CFL Most Sacks Title, plus some individual records to obtain.
GAME TIME : Friday, November 1st at 8pm MDT BC Place
TELEVISED on TSN and ESPN3
OFFENSE :
Expect all 3 quarterbacks to play tomorrow night. Head Coach John Hufnagel confirmed Kevin Glenn will start the game, then will be replaced by Drew Tate sometime in the game, while Bo Levi Mitchell will finish the game.
RB Jon Cornish rushed 20 times for 109 yards and 1 TD vs Saskatchewan, the 5th straight games he rushed for over 100 yards ties the club record. Cornish was also named Canadian Player of Week. Cornish is currently ahead by 201 yards over Kory Sheets in CFL Rushing Title race. He also needs 97 yards to tie the franchise record by Willie Burden. In 3 games, Stamps played BC Lions, he rushed 54 times for 375 yards and 4 TDs. He is the Stampeders nominees for Most Outstanding Player and Canadian Player of the Year award this season. He might be the first Canadian to win both awards in one season since Hamilton Tony Gabriel won it decades ago.
WR Jeff Fuller had a great game against the Riders last week. He caught 6 passes for 113 yards. He led the team in receiving yards. The 6'4" receivers caught an important pass late in the game from Drew Tate and almost scored a TD.
SB Marquay McDaniel topped the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the first time in his career in the win over Saskatchewan last week.
C Brett Jones, the rookie is the only Offensive Linemen to start all 17 games for the Stampeders. It has been an interesting season for the group who was hampered with injuries. Jones is the Stampeders nominees for Most Outstanding Rookies, which I think might have a chance of winning the award.
OL Stanley Bryant is the Stamps Most Outstanding Offensive Linemen nominee this season.
DEFENSE :
DE Charleston Hughes took the CFL Sack race lead by himself last week. He is only one sack away to tie Harold Hallman's franchise record of 19 sacks in a season. Hughes is 3 sacks ahead of 2nd place DE Alex Hall of Saskatchewan. Last week, he had 5 tackles and sacked Darian Durant 3 times..could have been 4. Against the BC Lions in 3 games, he recorded 6 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 INT and 3 pass knockdowns. Hughes is the Stamps nominee for the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year. I really think he will the Western finalist and Chip Cox of Montreal as the Eastern finalist.
DE Cordarro Law missed one game before last week but he is still 3rd in QB sack with 14, one behind 2nd place Alex Hall. Law was awesome last week against the Riders with 4 defensive tackles, 2 special team tackles and 2 QB sacks. The way he's been playing lately, i wouldn't be surprised that he finish 2nd to Hughes in QB sack race.
SPECIAL TEAM :
K Rene Paredes, Stamps nominee for Most Outstanding Special Team Player. I really think El Matador will win this award. I can't think of anyone who can beat him in this award. Paredes went 3 for 3 vs Saskatchewan last week and he's 8 for 8 against BC Lions in 3 games.
I am hoping to see Clifton "Peanut" Smith returning kickoffs and punts in this game. I am not sure if Huf gives Larry Taylor a rest though.
************************************************** ***
Expect the Stamps to rest Cornish, Hughes after they pass the franchise record. I really think Huf will rest C Brett Jones, SB McDaniel sometime in the 2nd half.
QB Buck Pierce will start for BC Lions tomorrow night. BC might also give Travis Lulay some time to play maybe in the 2nd half.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!

He would need a 201 yard game for 2000 yards rushing
He's at 2143 in all purpose yards.

Hope the revamped O Line is able to protect whichever QB is in the game. Peach is highly touted.
Happy to see Peanut get another shot...if he performs well tonight it might give Huff something to think about before the playoffs.

Smith was very impressive in the one game he played. I would argue that one game was better than just about any game Taylor has played this season.

Pound the ball. Would love to see Cornish get 201. He'll need a big 1st Q to get more playing time. Huf won't leave him in too long unless he's piling it up.

Those penalties cost them a TD. 7-3 BC with over a minute left in the 1st quarter.

Scott Mitchell @SUNMitchell 53s
Jon Cornish with no helmet and not riding the bike on the sideline, which he normally does between possessions. Looks like he's done. #CFL

2 Interior Defensive Linemen done for tonight due to injuries. Demone Bolden and Micah Johnson left the game. Cornish just helped out the trainer carry Johnson to the locker room.
Drew Tate is now in the game with over 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.

Oh great... another injury? McDaniel down and holding his knee. Take him out. This freaking game is useless and we will probably lose 3 starters. Crap!

Ugh. Probably a broken leg for Marquay. Not really Tate's fault -- his leg just got trapped in there.
