This footage was shot on a JFK runway. Yes, two kids just hopped a fence and started filming right on runway 31 back in 1968. Airport security has changed a bit little since then.
According to YouTube poster distar97, he and his 15-year-old friend just hopped a fence and recorded this unbelievable footage of what takeoffs were like back in the late '60s.
I had a really cool experience this weekend. A friend of my parent's is a private pilot and I got to go for a ride in his Vans RV-7A! We flew up to Red Deer and back and he even let me take the controls for a while! It's definitely a really different experience from flying commercial (the small plane really feels the turbulence!), but so much fun! I can post more pics if you folks are interested!

There was a Royal Air Force passenger jet at YYC on Friday. Looked like it might be the same plane as the Airbus A330 pictured below, but I'm just guessing. Any idea why they were in town? Joint training exercises? Is it typical seeing that plane here?

Don't they fly into Calgary and then train in Suffield every year? It's so awesome seeing the Tornados come through here...
Air Canada says FU to the Edmonton Airport Authority:
“Your recent announcement that Icelandair, with some financial and other support from YEG, will be commencing service between YEG and Reykjavik Airport (KEF) gave us cause to revisit our YEG international operations,” wrote Derek Vanstone, Air Canada’s vice-president of corporate strategy for industry and government affairs. YEG is the industry code for Edmonton International Airport.
That would be awesome for about half an hour, then it would be a PITA. Bright and hot. It would have to be a cruise ship type concept, where you can get up and walk, lounge around at a bar to really be worth the effort. Nothing worse than being stuck ina seat with the sun blaring in your face.

Anyone know the load factors for the LHR flight from YEG? I've always assumed it's a bit thin.
There is definitely a little more to this than just "FU YEG".
It looks like mistakes were made on both sides. AC is mad because in the Icelandair announcement they believe one of the statements used was critical to LHR (and thus their flight) versus Keflavik with the new route.
However as AC starts to ramp up Rouge more and more they could have already been planning the 3 month stoppage of the flight and this gave them a very convenient excuse to do so.
