Varlamov released on a $5000 bond and given permission to travel. Seems the judge doesn't think he is a flight risk.

kieran nicholson ‏@kierannicholson 4m #varlamov bond set at $5,000 #avs #nhl #varly

kieran nicholson ‏@kierannicholson 1m #varlamov granted permission to travel by court, restraint order imposed. #avs #nhl #varly

Yeah, because that's the important issue here.

I'm sure to the Avalanche that's a fairly important issue. They won't suddenly stop caring about winning because of this.

Notes:

- Varli's gf claims he beat her up in a "drunken rage"
- Happened in the past (according to victim)
- Threw her into the wall, she went to the floor and he was stomping on her
- Happened Tuesday Morning
- Victim hospitalized (bruising)

Still unclear about kidnapping? ...
Do they have any kids? He probably took the kid(s) with him when he left if so.

No kids.

According to Dmitry Chesnokov, a source says after an arguement on Tuesday, Semyon put his ex-girfriend and her belongings "out of the door". As per the one legal definition I posted last night, it's more then possible that the kidnapping charge could be stemming from the fact that he in some way, physically removed her from the house and put her outside of the house.

His girlfriend, whose name is redacted from police reports, said Varlamov kicked her in the chest and knocked her down, then stomped on her while she was on the ground. He grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out of her bedroom and held her face to the floor, according to the affidavit and arrest warrant. He also grabbed her by her arms and shook her and pushed her down again, she told police.

"Her statement is that this is the most minor of the beatings she received. She's received five in all, and the last one was to unconsciousness," said Robert Abrams, an attorney who is representing Varlamov's girlfriend. He said the woman spent five hours in a hospital getting exams and X-rays.

His client has been dating Varlamov off and on for four years. She lives in Russia where she is from but travels to live with him. She had just begun a three-month stay in Denver, Abrams said. He said he would try to keep her here so she can testify against Varlamov but added, "I've got her in hiding."

The woman only speaks Russian, so after the incident she called Abrams' fiancee, Diana Senova, who is Lithuanian and speaks the language.

Semyon Varlamov (Denver Police Department)
Senova told detectives that Varlamov's girlfriend had been concerned he would hurt her because he had been drinking, the report says.

Detectives said in their report they saw bruising on the woman's left forearm and right hip. Senova also noticed them, Abrams said.

If Russia isn't going to extradite Snowden, they aren't going to return their starter at Sochi who they believe has had charges trumped up to thwart their gold medal chances.
Yeah, these are clearly pretty much the same situation, good analogies.

Smart money says that this all gets taken care of prior to him actually having to stand trial for anything and goes away as quietly as possible. With her probably settling the ensuing civil litigation.

If you want to speculate, fine, but don't call the girl OR the guy a monster until you have some semblance of a story, and that doesn't include a breaking news segment or the lawyer of one of the parties involved.
If you are going to scold people for "pass[ing] judgement" before the "facts are actually out there", you probably should not be passing judgment yourself in the very same sentence.

Yeah, you're probably right, I could have worded that better. It just usually seems like the media wants to pick up a story like this and splash it as much as possible before all the facts are in, that's what I meant by sensationalizing.

He's politician from an nationalistic LDPR party. He's just playing a political card. Few in Russia really believe it is a conspirancy for Olympics.

There are several reports in russian media, quoting people who know Varlamov in person, particularly KHL goalie Mikhail Birukov, who say that Varlamov doesn't drink at all during the season. IF it is true, than it's almost certainly a big lie by his girlfriend. Despite beating girl while being sober is a crime too, but if she lied about him being drunk, it is very likely that she lied about a lot of other things as well.

$5000 bail bond? Probably not as severe as it originally sounded.
