I'm not upset to see Backlund scratched. He has had a few good games, but for the most part he has only been so-so. He could be so much better and I think that is the point Hartley is trying to make.

It's not about how much better Backlund is than another player. It's about getting the most out of him over a whole season. An extreme example is let's say you have an 80 point player playing like a 40 point player. Do you just accept that the player is going to keep playing that way and offer no repercussions because a 40 player in the line-up is still nice to have.... or do you scratch him hoping to light a fire under him to get him back to form?

Jackman looks primed to take a stupid penalty.

Need to bury some of these chances - especially on a 2 on 1.

If he makes a stupid play, then fine.........but that goal was not his fault.
100% his fault are you kidding? Defencemen in front of the net are supposed to take the stick or body. He did neither.

I think it's safe to say I almost hate the Leafs as much as I hate the Canucks and Oilers. Almost.

Oh joy. Leafs have a player who has yet to score in the NHL. Y'all know what that means.

Maybe you stick him on a line that doesn't have McGratton on it?

Backlund has been one of the biggest contradictions of the "merrit" system this year. He has outplayed all our centers so far this year, but gets bumped down the depth chart once Colborne comes in for no reason at all. Then the same happens when Stajan comes back.

My hate for the Canucks these days is middling because they are not that much of a threat. The Oilers are way too pathetic to be hated. Right now, the Leafs and Habs are probably above both in terms of hate.

Backlund has outplayed Monahan? I think not.

always hate to watch the home games vs the Leafs because of all those Leafs jerseys in attendance and the cheering when they score ... must be annoying when you're actually in the building
