That's been the works for years. An aldermanic candidate in 2010 and I were talking about that. When that happens those poor people have to drive 162nd to MacLeod (basically, although maybe Mckevitt). Regardless of your route though, a day like Monday could mean an hour or more to MacLeod. Good times.

Tough to say how long it'll take to go west to Stoney and cut across on Anderson. Definitely not an hour.

If you are taking 24th onto the 22x driving through bridlewood to get to Mkevit to go east bound or driving to 162nd to go northbound isnt a big deal in my opinion. Generally I find 162nd to north bound Mcleod faster in rush hour than the 22x anyway. Also access to Mcleod via Anderson road may become a more attractive option as well.

Selfishly its going to take a few minutes longer to get to banff as 6th street is the only access to go west towards Bragg because Mckevit doesnt go west and 162nd doesnt go south. Although the ring road to 16th ave will probably faster than through Bragg once complete.

I am quite satisfied with Bridlewwods access to the ring road.

Spelling mistakes happen too often in everything, official or not. A couple signage typo examples include "Nosehill Drive" instead of "Nose Hill Drive" on Stoney over the Bow River, and "114 Street" instead of "114 Avenue" on SE Stoney.

Just found this on wikipedia, except for the ones on the reserve, all the coordinates of the proposed Stony Trail plopped on google Maps. I would assume you could export it as a KML file if you wanted your own file of it.

As the ones on the reserve are the ones of most interest, what the link shows is sort of common knowledge, but maybe someone will add the route in the reserve now that a deal has been made:

Why in the world did they build discovery ridge right there? Would be better if Highway 8 was it's own independent connector.
Edit: Answered my own question, it would probably be to long of a detour through the reserve, causing more controversy and money.

So the plan for the west end of the ring road is to go right up the hill from Stoney/Hwy 1, through the KOA campground and Burnco and run near or on 101 st?

Yep, south of 16th it's going to curve a bit to the east toward Cougar Ridge then go due south from there. Around Bow Trail it curves back slightly to the southwest to get around Springbank Hill, then curves a bit back to the southeast again to meet up with Glenmore.

The whole thing is east of the current 101 St.

Is there a map of this? I am interested in how they expect it to go . I can't see it going east of 101 st. It will likely have to go west of the existing 101 street, as 101 is still on springbank hill. Going ab ~115 st would be in the valley at the foot of the hill and connect nicely as it wraps around the hill, to Glenmore.

Pretty much, the route up the hill might change a bit because to meet the provinces required maximum grade you have to basically cut the top of the hill off. Or they might relax the max grace requirement.

That grade being 3.0% max. 22X on the east and west side of the Bow River is 3.6% and 4.0%, respectively... so an exception was made there because the road was already existing. Exceptions also made for the off-ramps to Chaparral and McKenzie Lake Blvd again because of the river, both relaxed from 4.0% to 6.0%.

They'll ideally want it at 3.0% but I'm assuming there will be some cost-benefit analysis done and if there is any kind of significant savings at 3.5 or 4% they'd probably do it. There's like 40 exceptions being made for NE Anthony Henday to various rules, obviously an extremely complicated project though. I dunno... I'm not an engineer.

This is the elevation profile I have based on Google Earth data:

Hwy 1: 3700 feet
Old Banff: 4080 feet
Bow Trail: 4070 feet:
17 Ave: 3850 feet
Hwy 8: 3700 feet
Elevation Gain: 380 feet

I am no engineer either, but my calculations are that it would take 3.9km of trenching (all the way to Bow Trail) to gain 380 feet of elevation at 3% grade and 2.3km (up to Old Banff) at 5% grade. They have to build overpasses for both Old Banff and Bow Trail, so I am assuming they will just go with a 3% grade and trench the whole thing?

Never realized until just now that the elevation change down to Hwy 8 is just as much as coming up from Hwy 1... I hope the residents of Elbow Valley enjoy the sound of engine brakes.

I am assuming this is done to limit the volume of traffic entering both of these roadways from the ring road. Regardless, looks like you will be able to jog over to 101 St and backtracking to accomplish whatever access you reqiure.

Plus, they don't want to turn Stoney into another Deerfoot where there is interchange after interchange after interchange all on top of each other. It's dangerous and causes backups and accidents.
