this is why we missed a season and a half of hockey?

If that was a whipping boy who made that error we would be on page 50 of the game thread. It's a discussion, Backlund/Wideman made a mistake. No one's suggesting we burn his house down, but in a 1-0 game I think it's alright to talk about the 1 goal...

And Wideman was, and was supposed to be, in that space.
Backlund's gotta support Russell and the play up the wall on the play because the cardinal rule is you have one defender in front of the net at all times.
There is absolutely no reason Wideman is where he is when that goal goes in, half way between the crease and the blueline, with a Dallas player directly in front of the goalie. When the Dallas player gets the pass, Wideman is almost directly next to Jones, the Winger. That's atrocious positioning, he should never be there, especially when the puck has been in his zone for 30 seconds at that point.
It's inexcusable defense. Pee Wee.

I am more angry the wideman didn't run him over when he was standing in front...would have been a good penalty

yeah but sometimes there isn't a right answer and one particular guy to blame. Multifactorial

which would have forced the D to pull back off the line, allowing the clear, and thus no goal.
