What kind of accountability do chiefs have anyways?

If the Chiefs want this deal, do you honestly believe vote rigging won't occur if the vote is extremely close?

If I was a member of Tsu Tiina I would prefer getting all that crown land. If I am not mistaken, its beautiful, full of trees and closer to the mountains.
As opposed to the land they are giving up.

If it gets approved how much of that section of land on either side of the road can be developed.

once the ring road is getting built, providence can be built out. Providence is the area between 22x and the reserve - from bridlewood out to something like 69 st or wherever the City limit is there. the LRT is long long term, and would go from seton across the river to somerset and then up 162nd west to 69 st etc. a connector route

My wife works at MRU and my kids go to school in Lakeview. We live in McKenzie Towne. (Yes we are the devil's seed personified)

This project when done will be awesome. Until then, NIGHTMARE!

I think one of the reasons this is being kept quiet is to stop racist white people (the people who post in the sun comments section) from getting the deal killed. It wouldnt take many comments of just take land comments or they are just going to waste on booze comments to turn the issue.

So if you want it to pass it needs to be quiet because Calgary is still to racist to have any kind of intelliable debate about native rights.

I assume the reserve land adjacent to the roadway would also get developed. I could easily see a Tulululip style Seattle Premium outlets type mall going there and if they ever give natives the ability to sell and subsidize there own land you would see neighbourhood debelopment as well.

If the deal is approved, it would still take months to get the prospective P3 bidders together to submit Qualifications, then I would guess 6-12 months to put together a bid, then another few months after award to begin work. This would all have to wait for the Federal Government to approve the land swap. So 1-2 years after a potential approval is what I'd imagine would be the timeline for construction to start.

This portion of the ring road is more complex and could possibly have a larger impact than the SE on existing traffic, so it would not be as quick as the other quadrants. The NE had it the easiest in terms of dealing with existing traffic as the majority of the work was in green fields.

Yes I suspect that is a part of it. It's really unfortunate people can't understand that this a major decision that will in effect change the future of the tsu Tina nation. They are poised to become a very wealthy one and if they keep going the way they have with their own economic development that will provide resources to their people for the future

So if approval is given tomorrow, then the road will be completed by 2023. That seems like a way out but the project looks huge and will take years to finish.

If there was even a shred of truth to that, we would have had a southwest ring road built 30 years ago.

When this project is done, your kids could very well be going to school at MRU and the wife retired.

Glenmore from 101 St to 37 St is going to be a nightmare for 3+ years, problems worse than anything Stoney SE has created... of that I'm sure. 16 Ave, Sarcee, and 69 St will be horrible. Discovery Ridge residents are in for a massive headache.

The fact that you can make this post while at the same time referencing the sun comment section is amazing. Nothing like using gross generalizations to combat gross generalizations that you have made up. I have news for you, you are the average sun commenter.

Which gross genralization do you disagree with

A significant portion of Calgary is prejidiced against natives, or a significant portion of the sun online comments section is filled with hate.

At the time of posting this link we are 2 for 2 on racist comments and the article is only 2 hrs old

The only thing I think would be debatable in my earlier statement is that the tsu tina would vote against the deal if enough white people are calling them drunks.

If it fails, I'd love for the stage 1 improvements at Deerfoot/Glenmore to go ahead, so at least we get something done while they determine the next plan of attack.

QR77 played part of an interview Chief Sanford Big Plume gave after the defeat of the last vote.

He said that the main reason it was defeated is the whole deal had not been signed. Part of it was just a handshake with the Premier and Mayor at the time and while he trusted that handshake, many of those voting did not.

Well that's to be expected. I wouldn't trust a handshake deal on a deal if this magnitude either

From the Calgary Sun article:

"It’s also been rumoured that each Tsuu T’ina member would receive a $70,000 payment if the pact was approved."

I hope they turn down any and all offers made. There is nothing that pleases me more than listening to uneducated white Canadians bitch about the native people of this wonderful land we call Canada.
