I don't think he is the worst but he is certainly not the best. For me that will always be Bob Cole. Whenever I picture the Flames winning the Cup it is Cole doing the pbp with that awesome voice of his. Cole is the gold standard for pbp tv guy.

Simmer is 100000x worse than kerr. Just saying. The constantly pointing out the obvious with no insight, no interesting stories, or anything interesting, for that matter. relating everything to "confidence" and "feelings". Same old, broken record comments. Worst tv personality by far..
If you ever listened to Kerr on the fan you'd know he is an encyclopedia of hockey knowledge. Definitely well qualified. Also I guarantee you that he did pbp at some point in his career, as just about all radio guys that cover teams have to do minor/junior pbp to get their foot in the door. it's very common. No way they hired him with no experience. Also I like the excitement he brings on goal calls and how theres no bias in his style. And how he ramps up his intensity in the last minute of every game. It's things like "sandwich stanza" that have me shaking my head..

Even though Rob Kerr would not likely take this as a compliment I genuinely mean it as one.
Rob Kerr, if you are reading this you need to go to pro wrestling. You would be AWESOME at it. Maybe the best ever.

I found the fight calling to be massively bush league. Obviously Kerr and the radio station thought it was fantastic, but it was embarrassingly bad and cringe worthy. I'm glad that has been put to bed permanently (because he's on TV now, obviously, but it had to end one way or another).
I can live with Kerr on PBP. He's quirky and a little awkward at times, which I kind of enjoy, and he's undoubtedly passionate about the game and the Flames. I liked Loubardias and didn't really mind Millions, but I'll still watch regardless of who is calling it. Maybe I'm just not that picky.
I do like what Tinordi said a few pages back though: Having an option to listen to just the on-ice sounds would be great. I know that it will never happen, and I mean no disrespect to those that call games, but I like hearing the skates, sticks, boards, players and coaches yelling, etc. and could do without someone's voice. The CBC strike a few years ago was an interesting experience.

Yes that was great. I wish it was an option on broadcasts. Kerr and Simmer are just a sad pairing. I'd far far rather listen to just the sounds of the game.

You might as well listen to the sounds of the game. Kerr saps the excitement out of watching..I have heard of people listening to Peter Maher while watching the game on mute...I am seriously considering this.

Well youve rained on my parade haha... Ive never tried it, but it would make sense that it wouldnt be synced.
He has toned down his awkward antics, but his pbp is just so un-eventful. He seems to only describe every 3rd 'action' or 'event' or however you want to say it.

I don't think Danny Gallivan or Bob Cole or Dan Kelly told stories or offered hockey trivia. They just described the play. The commentators did that other stuff.

Just play with your PVR a bit, if you have one.

I liked Roger Millions a lot as the PBP guy, and I liked Loubo too.
Kerr I could take or leave as the PBP man but I'll watch the Flames no matter who is the guy calling the game. Makes no difference to me!

I believe Kerr would have ben better served by doing radio before TV. With radio a PBP has to describe all the action as he is the only link to the listener of the play on the ice. You can't do stories during the play on radio or listeners miss the game. I mean most Flames fans are all well aware of the Mitchel long stick story with Keenan calling him out. Not sure why you would go over that story while the game is going on.

Unfortunately, the distinction between PBP and colour commentary has become blurred. You don't want the colour guy talking to himself, but the PBP guy should have a passive role in the banter.

With a PVR if you delay your video by 3 seconds (on Bell, not sure what the delay is like on Shaw/Telus), it will be perfectly synced with FAN960.

What provider?
I don't think I have ever noticed sync issues on Sportnet on Bell. The only audio issue I have had was a really strange tin can effect during one game last week, which didn't effect the SD station. It was determined to be a problem with Bell only. This is when it is handy to have a PVR and sync up FAN960.

See thats the problem. We will tune in regardless since the game is only on one channel at a time. I would take tsn or cbc every time over sportsnet, if i had the choice.

I want Kerr pbp with Loubo doing color. That would be funny they both have nasaly voices and are kind of awkward.
