Well the vote is today, polls close tonight at 8pm and then results will probably be announced tomorrow around noon. So we might not know anything until then.

After that the federal government would have to approve anything, which could mean a further 3-5 weeks I guess.

the federal government is just a rubber stamp at this point is it not? from what I've read if the nation votes in favor of the referendum the government has stated they won't stand in the way? is this correct or am i misinterpreting something i read.

living in Bridlewood and travelling to Invermere most weekends I'm holding my breath and crossing all fingers and toes this gets approved this time. I feel this is probably the closest we've ever been to having a deal

I would imagine its a rubber stamp, because if they stood in the way after all the decades of attempts and issues you have to think it would hurt them in the polls. Who knows though. If the deal looked really bad for some reason I suppose they would have to block it.

Nope, nor can I even verify the accuracy of what I was told. Merely that the person to whom I spoke intended to vote yes, but obviously that has no bearing on what everyone else intends to do.

Can you please get this person to take a quick poll from all friends and family so we can all have a better idea and don't have to wait until tomorrow

You know what guys- I'm as excited as anybody else that we might see the SW Ring Road before the end of the decade. However the Tsuu Tina have stated that they would like to make this descision making process private; and I think we should show the Tsuu Tina people respect on this matter.

Knowing 18 hours early won't change what happens over the next several years, but us not showing respect could influence what happens today with the voting.

I don't really want him to take opinion polls from the nation, I'm just curious if the people that know anyone from the nation has any insight to what way this thing is going to fall.

the reason i think this is a possibility this time around is because the nation has been allowed to deliberate in private the deal without public opinions being expressed

Ridiculous! This is a group that is about to vote on a multi billion dollar project that will affect a million people. For them to expect some sort of privacy is unreasonable.

It is quite reasonable. How many Tsuu Tina are there? A couple thousand, vs 1.2 million Calgarians?

Without privacy, they get bullied around by the much larger group of people.

I'm curious if the deal is approved by the Tsuu Tina, how long afterwards until they hit the ground running with construction... I'm just assuming ground isn't broken until next spring at the earliest but who knows, they may be hell bent on fast-tracking it after 30+ years of negotiations.

Speaking from a position of complete ignorance, it seems like construction on the SW portion could potentially proceed more quickly than the other 3 portions for the sole reason that other than the connector roads, they don't really have to be concerned with re-routing traffic or having much of an impact on the city popluation as a whole.

It does impact a portion of Glenmore Trail/ HWY 8 that is currently in use. It affects the 37th St interchange and Sarcee trail as well.

Anyone else listen to the interview on CBC radio this morning with the guy that used to live on the Tsuu Tina reservation? He predicted that the vote will very close. Basically, 50/50. The interesting thing he said, that I hadn't thought of before, was that there is a new generation of residents able to vote this time around, and that this generation hasn't yet acquired the high level of distrust that older generations have. He was also concerned that many of that younger generation lack the ability to look to the future....they wan't the immediate gratification.

The basic point was that the vote is going to be very close which is why the government has been so tight lipped. Angering 3 or 4 residents may be enough to tilt the vote one way or another.
