Let's not go crazy, I actually liked the move to Steinberg for OT. Kerr didn't really float my boat there. Mainly cause I sort of like how Steinberg isn't as short with the drunk callers venting.

I would think that the NHL monitors and has standards on how their product is delivered. I've never been a fan of Kerr, even when he used to host overtime. Came off as condescending to pretty much every caller. Put him in a closet and let him screen calls.

1st world problems bro. If you are seriously all riled up all game because you think Kerr sucks, then maybe you should have your priorities in order when watching the game. And what exactly is the ''service'' SN provides us that you feel you aren't getting your money's worth? They broadcast the game for you to watch. How hard is it to turn down the volume if he riles you people up that much? My god. Just because One Tree Hill is being shown on ABC doesn't mean I'm forced to suffer through it. I can change the channel. Just like you guys can turn down the volume if you're not a fan of Kerr. This thread is embarrassing.
My god, the Flames are playing decent in year 1 of a rebuild. And people are complaining about the PBP guy. Never change CP, never change.

I remember everytime a girl would get a lucky point off a netcord, he'd describe it as 'dirty pool'.

I don't know whether or not CP played any role in getting Loubo fired but I understand where pylon is coming from. Back in the day, I was very vocal about my distaste for how Millions did the pbp. Now, I really try not to pass judgement on these guys. Maybe it comes from having a family of my own now. I'd hate to think I had even a small part in getting somebody canned. Personally, I miss Rob Kerr on the radio every day but I'm happy for him that he is making a living while performing a job many of us would love to do.

If Robb Kerr was a Calgary Flame, he'd be Chris Butler..
And I'm pretty sure I've seen enough posts on here asking to get rid of Butler. Perhaps we should think of his family before we continue to diss him as well.
Rob Kerr is awful, plain and simple.

Kerr would be great calling an Easter egg hunt. "WHERE IS IT!?"
I'll show myself out.

You're right; he's into his third year, and last year was half a season, so I suppose he's had 18 months. Sportsnet is still cheap.

You're supposed to be condescending to a bunch of drunk jackasses who call into a radio show at 12:30 on a Wednesday night.

Agree with this, but I sometimes found Kerr to be rude when he was tired or the fans wanted to vent (like after being eliminated by the Ducks.) Host of OT is a tough job, you need patience.

Can you find an actual post by me in a game thread criticizing Kerr? I don't get all that riled up but I notice and when I see a thread on the topic I post on it. I'm a Flames fan so you suggest I change the channel and not watch the games? Are you proof reading what you are posting?
Where did I say I wasn't a fan of Kerr? I've said numerous times over the years I respect the work he has put in covering the Flames. All I commented on is that he needs to concentrate more on the play and leave the banter for timeouts as it sounds amateur when the play is ongoing and the commentators are talking about old stories. Calling for Kerr to be fired is over the top but I don't think constructive criticism is embarrassing at all.

The stories and banter are also largely irrelevant to anything going on. Oh hey, Willie Mitchell is playing - I'm going to guffaw about the super long stick a coach brought out many seasons go for 20 seconds of play instead of doing my job.
As pointed out, he also trips himself up more by apologizing for his mistakes. All broadcasters make mistakes, and I respect him for correcting himself. It just doesn't need to be such a long, drawn out song and dance when he does so.

I don't mind Kerr too much. If he bothered me as much as some people in this thread then I would mute the tv and listen to Peter Maher while I watch. I actually have done that a couple times, not for hate of Rob Kerr but rather for love of Peter Maher.

Huge difference. Rob Kerr has zero effect on the on ice performance. And he actually does a good job minus a few superficial flaws. Nobody can dissect his knowledge and say it is inadequate.
This would be like saying Jiri Hudler should be traded because he has a giant melon.

Kerr's job is to speak into a microphone. Hudler's job is to play a sport. Kerr's looks and the shape of Hudler's head both have nothing to do with their jobs. The way Kerr delivers his play-by-play is certainly worse than many of the broadcasters we see regularly in Canada. Saying this on the internet is not the death knell for his career, as those at Sportsnet and the NHL can decide that well enough for themselves.
I like Kerr's PBP in the same way I like Shaw TV's election coverage. It's goofy when it normally isn't. Both Kerr and Shaw TV aren't very good though.

I don't understand how a PBP man can take away from your enjoyment of the game? This is a honest question.
As long as he's keeping up with the play they're doing a good enough job. Sure, there are people who may be more capable at calling the better which improves the experience, but I don't see how someone can dislike the PBP so much that they have to mute it.

I'll say it again - there just isn't enough broadcasting talent in Canada to cover all the NHL games that are shown on all the networks these days. Not at a professional level anyway. There's enough top-flight talent for about 5 broadcast teams, not 12 or 15. Even the old 2&7 broadcasts were higher quality production than Sportsnet. Whalen was decent, and the color guys (Harry Neale, John Davidson, Scotty Bowman) were excellent. The talent today is simply spread way too thin. I used to chuckle over the local broadcasts of Flames away games in places like Buffalo and Boston that I watched on satellite. But they're a lot better than Sportsnet West.
Mute your TV, turn on the radio, and you can convince yourself that you're watching a professional sports broadcast, and not an AJHL came on community TV.

Rob Kerr has some cringe worthy moments for sure. "The gun went off!" in Columbus is the one that sticks in my mind, but it doesn't deter from my enjoyment of the game. I don't know, maybe he is trying too hard to find himself some catch phrases (eg. 'You can put it in the win column.', 'Yeah Baby!', 'Hello Hockey Fans!') Calling for his head is significantly different than calling for Butler's head though, and to suggest they are the same is asinine. Butler and his family are NOT going to suffer financial hardship if he is put on waivers. You can't say that about any regional broadcast personality.
This brings up another point: comparing a regional broadcast crew's production against a national broadcast is simply not a fair comparison. Any regional personality who gains any sort of popularity is going to be snatched up for bigger money by the big boys. Toth from Calgary, Dutch from Edmonton, it seems to happen all the time. I am glad to have the team of Kerr and Millions over Principe in Edmonton, and the tools in Vancouver. (Who is the guy that always starts talking like a cartoon character? Taylor?)
Bottom line, if Kerr was as good at his job as some of you want, he would already be gone. I myself like his passion and effort, and respect his knowledge base enough to be able to deal with the little quirks.

There was a thread on here a year or two ago complaining about Peter Maher. Some people are never happy.
