I completely understand why you feel that way, I would feel the same if I were in your shoes.

I think the easiest solution here is to delete this thread and start a new one called, "My buddy took my bike with my permission and crashed it". You collect on the insurance since it's covered with collision and get a new bike. Problem solved.

Yes, of course. Nothing like a little insurance fraud to get your way, and make up for your stupid mistake.

So, not to pour salt on the wound but to maybe have this serve as a lesson for others- how much are you out over this, and how much would comprehensive insurance have cost you?

I am out about $13,500 ... and it would have cost me about an additional $1200 to have full coverage and $300 to install the security device the insurance company wanted me to have .. so all in all about $1500

Now here is where you may have something.

If they told you it was $1200 more to carry simple theft insurance, there is something wrong. I never insure motorcycles for collision, but always add theft and vandalism for something like $100 per year.

If it could be proven via a recorded phone call or quote they had grossly misquoted you, and you opted out based on that price, you may be able to take the insurer to task. It, under no circumstances I know of, costs $1200 to add theft coverage to a bike.

Most people can't pickup and carry a motor bike.
Just sayin.

Did that really need green text? Really?

1200$ for full coverage including collision ... after chatting with a few other friends they are saying they pay nothing close to that, at the most 750$ per yr with theft

You can add theft coverage without collision is what I am getting at, and it does not cost much, it's usually very cheap. Collision is the big ticket item on motorcycle insurance, not theft. It sounds like you have a poor understanding of how insurance works, and had an equally poor insurance advisor.

Not having theft on a motorcycle is insanity, given how cheap it is.

This. I think theft on mine was $75, whereas collision would have almost doubled the price.
