No PP for Sven?

I guess it makes sense, someone had to drop when Cammy was put back in. Certainly can't argue with the result, 3 for 6!

We're still missing some key players from the roster. Stajan and D. Jones I thought were playing quite well before going down to injuries

Hudler-Monahan-Cammalleri was the top PP unit, and Glencross-Colborne-Stempniak was the second unit. It worked out well.

Flames vs East : 3-0-1. More games vs the east this year. So far so good.

Don't see these games too often where all the goals came on special teams. The Flames PP was on fire and could do no wrong. Only bummer was giving up a SHG but a win is a win!

- Colborne again with his best game so far. Learning fast seems to be a theme this year. He's starting to be noticeable, using his size more and getting some chances.
- Monahan ' Hudler I was kind of meh on Hudler in the first couple of games, felt like he was forcing things and losing pucks unnecessarly as a result. Seems like he was just getting warmed up. Hartley has mentioned Hudler being a mentor to Monahan. Can't complain with the results, they seem to have great chemistry, and that combined hockey IQ is just beatiful to watch.
- Karri Rämö with the what I'd call the first real #1 goalie performance by a Flames goalie this year. Comforting to say the least.

- As a negative notion: Right now we're basicly rotating 5 ½ D-men, as O'Brien only plays ~10 minutes a night. 213th out of 219 NHL defenseman in TOI/G, and every player behind him is the 7th or 8th defenseman on the team. He had 8:31 icetime last night, that's just silly low.

At the same time, Wideman got 29+ minutes, Giordano 28+, and IMO the SH goal against was a direct result of that. That should have been an easy clear for those two guys. The Kings obviously went after our defensemen, and Giordano especially started to look very worn down by the end of the game. Other teams will keep doing the same, as it's an obvious weak spot on our team.

Minutes like that are not sustainable over 82 games, it's going to cost us unnecessary goals against plus it's an injury risk.

We need another guy that can play the normal 14-15 minutes required.

I effing love Monahan. I wanted us to draft him so badly and I'm glad he's tearing it up for us.

Man crush engaged

Agrred. He may not be the most flashy player but he just looks like he has what it takes to win. I really think he will be comparable to a player like toews.

Haven't read the while thread, so Not sure if this has already been posted. Some Darryl Sutter quotes on Monahan:

@curtiszupke: Darryl Sutter on Sean Monahan: "He reminds me of my brother Brent at that age.”

@reallisa: Highest form of Sutter praise. Monahan reminding Darryl of Brent.

Brodie was rock solid. Best game of his career so far that I have seen. His performance outmatched Drew Doughty's last night, and Doughty looked awesome.

Ramo made some incredible saves & got us a big win. Looked like a #1 goalie.

I didn't realise how much Cammalleri had been missed. Vintage one-timer goal, so his hand must be ok! He's a vocal presence on the bench & super positive (the camera caught Monahan shuffling over beside him to ask advice, as well as Cammy telling Hudler his pass was beautiful). Cammy-Colborne-Stempniak was dangerous all night. Welcome back!

Monahan. What more needs to be said? Plays like a top-6 NHL forward, keeps improving (and there is no reason to believe he'll stop improving) & just keeps scoring big goals. I think he raises the entire team's game. As Roger Millions tweeted: he'll be looking for digs in Calgary later this week.

Too many positives to bother listing. When this team is on their game they are insanely fun to watch. Baertschi, Bouma, Galiardi & Backlund all tear it up on the forecheck. Glencross is the only one misfiring right now & I'm sure he'll get it together eventually.

Go Flames Go!

Good game last night. The Flames looked rather “discombobulated” a number of times in their own zone but had strong pressure down low to break up plays and block shots. Watching the PK is extremely difficult to stomach and will be an issue for the foreseeable future. They need to be more active with their sticks and try and pressure the d-men a little more. It seems there is a lot of standing around and when they actually move their feet they seem to get disjointed and leave one or two guys wide open. Faceoffs were a huge issue once again but seemed to improve in the last 10 minutes of the game. Still, LA is one of the best teams in that department so no surprises there.

Best player for the Flames was definitely Ramo. Huge game and he made some great saves.

Best forward was Lee Stempniak. While he didn't make it on the score sheet, he was a force on the forecheck as well as the backcheck. He lays the body, is good defensively, and has good speed. Great game by him. I guess Hudler was a close second. He was engaged and taking hits to make players. Great pass on the game winning goal.

I actually thought Brodie had a rough game. There were times where he held on to the puck longer than he should have or tried to force plays when they were not there. Glad he got that game winner, confidence is so huge at this point.

Gio got nailed a few times last night and was visible frustrated. He actually started to seem tentative when carrying the puck up the ice. Great pass on the Monahan’s goal though. Speaking of Monahan, he just keeps scoring goals. Nothing flashy, a little slow but he knows where to be positional to be successful. I was actually more impressed with Sven’s game as he was tenacious in the defensive zone and won a lot of board battles.

Definitely enjoyed the game and glad the Flams were able to pick up a win in Cali.

Great game. I especially loved the pass from Hudler on the winning goal. Pretty crafty stuff.

The only thing that scared me a little was how easily the Kings were able to push our players off the puck at times. I think our defense really needs to get bigger and stronger. We came through this time, but ideally we should be addressing that in the long term.

How is there not a "Jiri fricken Hudler" thread on the CP first page?!?!

Has the longest scoring streak in the league to start the season, our entire offense revolves around Hudler, in that he's the catalyst for so much of it 5 on 5 and on the PP.

Funny how him and Wideman came in last season with lots of criticism, myself included, but are the leaders of the team, and showing their value with more responsibility on their shoulders this year.

The good?
-Monahan
-Hudler
-Cammi
-Powerplay
-Forecheck

I love the forecheck as I see turnovers and Takeaways all the time. Beautiful

The negatives?
-PK has GOT to improve if the success is to last. With a young inexperienced team, that may be difficult.
-physical push back. Seems like as they got hit more, they started to hit less. You don't have to rock them with every hit, but a little more push back stops the momentum from changing as they hit. After a few hits, the forwards and d were backing up from every even puck battle to go on defense.

Overall, lots more positives that negatives. I wanna see this team in the playoffs (though I don't know if they can keep this up for that long), but they won't if the don't get better on the PK
