I wonder what everyones opinion over secondary suites is. In particular ward 11 where Pincott seems to be a heavy supporter of them. Maxim seems to have a very fishy tie to the developers, Urquhart also seems like she cannot be trusted anymore. She seems to be one of those councillors that has been in power for too long and now is using it to her advantage to support other interests rather than representing her people.

She's been in power for about 13 years, and done absolutely nothing. She has the very important stance of more firefighters and policemen and not a lot else beyond platitudes about fiscal prudence and things like that.

First, let me say, I like that we have police and fire. I really do. In the event of a fire or emergency they do a great job and I back them. But do we have a big problem with fires? I mean for this to be a campaign platform strikes me as a "supporting our troops" kind of thing. House fires were a big deal maybe in the 1950's, but they seem to be less so today. Response times seem good. Surely there are bigger fish to fry?

I think that if you talked to 10 people here in 13 you would have 8/10 (or maybe 10/10) complain about access and traffic. She has virtually nothing to say on the topic. Her big fix is the SW ring road, which as we all know is barely civic to start with. That's it. To me that's a big issue given that she supported the new development at Shawnee Slopes, and we'll soon have more expansion to the south and west. She has almost nothing to say on transit, or nothing of substance and basically adds nothing to what is probably the most important conversation for her constituents. So frustrating!

Anyway, I can say without hesitation that I don't know of anyone voting for her. Yet she will still win in a landslide. Such a disappointment!

I apologize for the rant here. I just can't believe we have four more years of this...

I'm really hoping Druh can squeak by again this time around. She does have the occasional wacko idea (i.e. the campaign against fluoride) but she has really delivered for her ward and also elevated the quality of architectural design in this city. I certainly wouldn't want a council full of her type, but I think she is a great asset to the City.

I seriously might start campaigning tomorrow. I had to walk past about 15 of her signs to vote (which were all illegal I'll add!) and that was kind of the straw that broke the camels back. Just so ridiculous!

DCU simply figured out the game a long time ago: Make old people happy and you'll win a lot of elections.

Despite a record-low personal interest in this election, I voted. I think the mayor's race is (obviously) a lock, and in my ward 9, none of the candidates energized me. I think Carra is terrible, a disingenuous, pretentious tool (AKA Politician), but there wasn't any viable alternative out there, so it was a struggle to actually convince myself to be bothered voting. I will say, I almost voted for Stan-the-Man Waciak...I mean, if he's "the-Man" (which was actually printed on the ballot), who am I to argue.

I left my ballot for school trustee blank. I don't have any kids, we're not planning on having any, so why influence a race that has zero consequences on my life, and in which I have no basis with which to make an informed decision. I'm not sure if this makes me politically disengaged, or just smart enough to stay out of it.

I plan on doing the same for similar reasons as you. If there was a nutjob running who was campaigning to modify the curriculum to teach creationism or abstinence-only sex education or similar nonsense, then I'd be sure to vote for his or her opponent. Since I haven't heard of any candidates having those views, I'm just going to abstain.

Absolutely agree. If I had heard anything similar, I would have done the same. I just hope I didn't miss it while I was drinking my organic, Rooibos almond-milk London Fog from Tea Trader walking to the Riva's Eco-Store to get some fair-trade toilet paper, from a farmer owned co-operative in Peru.

Turn up the hipster by 30%. What materials is your peacoat made out of? And did you use organic face cream this morning? If you used anything other than local honey, aloe and jojoba manufacturers or bought anything that was remotely touched by Asian factories with more than 10 "textile artists", then you're almost as bad as people who go to mainstream big budget Hollywood movies. Geez!

Dude, Artig? Really? Artig is just a re-branded Starbucks. Clearly you're too much of a plebe to know how they bought that IP off of the guys who now run 49th Parallel Roasters.

And I can't hang my head in shame off the peace bridge, I'm still trying to figure out who to vote for - i.e., which candidate has "Bring a Whole Foods Location to the Inner City" as part of her platform.

That'd be awesome if there was a hipster somewhere that voted for the most right-wing, radical conservative candidate in this election. Simply to say he did it 'before it was cool'.

I'm not 100% sure if you're being ironic or not. That could be because my large-rimmed black glasses are dirty and I can't read your post, or that my wallet chain is cutting off my circulation and making me light headed.

All kidding aside, get out and vote everyone. Voting gives you the right to bitch mercilessly for the next 4 years about those idiots in your neighbourhood who voted for the same idiot who's been alderman for the last 20 years, whilst all the while complaining about how that idiot hasn't done anything for the area. While ignoring the fact that you yourself also voted for same said idiot.

LOL, voodooman.

I just got back from taking my youngest to vote - she's finally old enough. I was really proud of her. She couldn't attend the forums out here, but they did several weeks of special features in the papers, and she has made sure to read all those, and figure out stuff.
