I think Wideman was more to blame. You can't blame Russell for being small, he did all he could, maybe the Flames shouldn't have traded for him.
But Wideman, he misread the open man completely. I don't know what he was thinking.
Wideman has played very good this year to start (just like last year), but his poor defensive play is starting to creep into his game again.
It's almost like he starts out well because the league veterans aren't up to speed yet and the rookies are new, but then as the season goes along, everything gets harder and Wideman's defensive play just gets worse and worse.
