I already know I won't be voting for Joe Maglioca (sp). I took a quick peak at his website and for someone who is running for the third time, he doesn't have a very polished platform. His asinine commuter train idea is a real detractor as well and to top it off, after returning from a walk at Nose Hill Park yesterday, my wife and I found all of the vehicles in our condo complex plastered with his campaign literature. A campaign team doing this on private property reflects really poorly on the candidate.

Bizarro86 did a great overview of Ward 2 candidates earlier in this thread

Funny caption from the Herald:

Calgary's first town council, 1884. Mayor George Murdoch is seated at left; Ald. Dale Hodges is standing, third from left

I have a few quick questions that may have been asked and answered...
The whole developer tax subsidy has been framed as a inner city vs suburbs debate. My question is even if you lived in the suburbs, say Cranston or Rocky Ridge, why would you want to subsidize new neighborhoods? Wouldn't you want your tax dollars to go into your own neighborhoods?

I like you. You know your stuff and you are passionate about you do.
I hope if a new Mayor gets elected, they keep you on as a staff member.

How did the Sun even end up endorsing Nenshi to begin with? Ric McIver seems much more their type.

He already admitted to being a troll in another thread. Too bad the mods couldn't take that comment he made and just punt him for it.

He only admitted it here, but with his posting style, specifically this thread and his goofy comments during the game last night (one of which being that we need to get rid of Brodie because he's deadweight) are pretty telling of what his intentions are when posting on this site. He's not here for honest discussion, he just goes to the hottest topics and annoyingly says the opposite of popular opinion. Way too obvious.

My understanding is that they are changing the policy so that the 1% does not need to be spent at the same site as the development and that multiple developments can be pooled together to do something more substantial. This would avoid needing to do 'something' on an overpass.

Lets keep on topic, instead of criticizing individual posters. I never am critical of posters or call someone a troll because I don't agree with them......
Anyways, people seem to forget that the Calgary Sun endorsed Nenshi for mayor 3 years ago . Were they a garbage newspaper back then too?
And btw popular opinion isn't Pro Nenshi. I think it is split .
So I am not posting in this thread just to go against "popular opinion"
Was I a troll last year for being so critical of Iginla?
I think Nenshi is the most committed Mayor Calgary has ever had. His whole life revolves around work. That is commendable.
I still think he isn't the right guy for Mayor.
Lord is no catch but he does have a lot of experience
Anyways lets get back to discussing the issues

Split? Are you being serious with that? Are you suggesting that when people go to the polls, Nenshi has about a 50% chance of staying mayor? Are you serious? We know that you know that you're not serious, so why not just spare everyone?

I think it will be very close.
When Nenshi won in 2010 he came out of no where in the last 2 days.
When the PC party won the provincial election and got a majority, it was not what the polling numbers suggested a week prior.
A lot can change.
Tomorrow evening I will totally eat crow if Nenshi wins by a landslide and you all have permission to to make fun of my prediction.

I'm ready to make fun of it today. There is basically a zero percent chance this is close. He has no challenger who is even remotely qualified, even if you don't like him. You are utterly and completely out to lunch.
The race is so not close that the mayor didn't even have to campaign for selection and instead tried to get people to vote in general. I have no idea where someone would find evidence to say this is close...just asinine.

What are you talking about? John Lord had every good idea that Nenshi has had but he had them 20 years ago.
