True, but Airport Trail was constructed around 2000, and I can't imagine they failed to consider a westward extension before then.

Anyone know where to find out if Deerfoot will still be down to one lane by the afternoon rush tomorrow? I just need to know if I am taking Macleod or not.

I emailed them because I have to go south tomorrrow, too... seems since they're past the due date they said "F it" with the traffic advisories and haven't posted anything on their website. I bet if we made enough of a stink we could get them fined because the contract states they have to:
Quote:
Implement traffic accommodation measures (e.g., detours, local access relocations and signage, along with public information and notices) to minimize effects on traffic congestion and maintain traffic flow.... [blah blah 400 more pages of stuff]
|
At no point is shutting down Deerfoot Trail NOT something you can get away with not releasing a press release for. If I get a response, I'll post it in this thread as soon as I get it.

Thanks, and let us know how to help. This is day 3 of Deerfoot SB being backed up past McKenzie Towne. The deep SE will be gridlocked tomorrow if they don't open more lanes up.

I'm just wondering when 11th St NE will be connected to Beddington.

It's a conspiracy by the latte-sipping inner-city elite at Silly Hall to keep you from voting.

96th ave at Deerfoot was in planning from at least 1980, where it was a partial interchange (no eastward portion towards the airport)
EDIT: I have 2 maps from 1980, one shows a partial interchange and one shows a full interchange with Airport Trail continuing eastwards. I think that since 96th ends only about 2.5km west of Deerfoot in those original plans, it would make more sense if it connected in both directions. In either case, the plan was there pretty early.

They gonna tunnel some shizz... that's exciting.
Deerfoot better be 10 lanes with C/D through to Memorial before they even think of trying to justify this.

What are the plans there? I used to work in the area north of Deerfoot Mall, and if there was ever an accident on 64th and Deerfoot, you couldn't get home. Now, there's Aero Drive around to Airport Trail, but a northbound exit via 11th St would be nice.

Connect it to the Beddington ramp, and also to NB Deerfoot itself after Beddington; it's a no-brainer and would take a huge load off the 64 Ave/Deerfoot interchange and more importantly the NB weave that exists there. Yep, it ranks very highly on the "bang for your buck" list of fixes to Deerfoot.

Are there any plans to actually do that anytime soon? That northbound lane that just fades away north of Aero Gate is so disappointing.

Nothing concrete. They'll do a study, then nothing for a few years, you know the drill.
No news from the province or the contractor on Deerfoot. I'm assuming they're done paving because I have heard anything about it today.

She speaks.

Hi Acey,
Thank you for your email. Today [Monday] should be the last day with any major traffic impacts. After today we should only have smaller areas to pave.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,

Means no such thing. I had asked her (and AB Trans) how much longer SB Deerfoot would be down to one lane for paving, as it caused massive delays all weekend. That was her response, and AB Trans also just replied and said:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting the Government of Alberta [...]
Our southeast Stoney Trail contractor has informed us that the paving activities on Deerfoot will continue for the rest of the week. In general a minimum of two lanes will remain open to the traffic on the main line but with the amount of work being done, it may cause some delays. [..]

Haha she gave an answer similar to a few I have received in the past, Lindsey "Rose-Coloured Glasses" Bethke you might as well call her. AB Trans has been far more likely to give a realistic answer, at least in my correspondence.
