Right now, when the GPU takes too long to display a frame, the monitor might have to show you an old picture while it waits for the new picture to catch up, which leads to stutter and lag. When the GPU is too fast, you might see two partial frames on screen that don't line up, and appear to "tear" horizontally across your display. According to Nvidia, both things are due to the fact that the monitor samples at a fixed rate, while video game framerates are variable. With a G-Sync monitor, though, the GPU is in charge: it manages the monitor's refresh rate in real time to match the frames that are coming out, giving you a smoother image even at lower framerates.

Wonder how much it will increase monitor cost.

Something new though in an area that hasn't seen anything new for forever.

I'm really stoked. I pretty much only buy monitors that score high on TFTCentral for movement, and won't play a game without VSync.

I will be an early adopter of G-Sync.

To be fair, when the manufacturers aren't in cahoots with the video card makers, there was no reason to drive panels at anything but the usual refresh rates.

At first I was just planning on getting a new Geforce 800 series when they come out for an upgrade. Then I saw what the new Haswell Intel chips can do. Now I read this. My next PC upgrade is going to be a lot more expensive than anticipated

You and me both brother. Hopefully the first integrated G-Sync displays come out in January/February so I can space it out till the 8xx cards come out in May.
