It's true. My building has all sorts of scary SARS people laying out on the concrete.

Nearly everyone here is just like those in the CC.org group; hiding their identities, yet pushing agendas. Demanding accountability and transparency of everyone else, yet giving none themselves.

The posters who I do know, or those who use their real name; are like my friends in the CC.org group - they are decent people and generally don't take things personally. We can have differing views and discuss issues as adults.

I don't post here to make friends - I have enough of those out in the real world. I've said it before, I post here because I enjoy lively debates with varying views.

Let's face it on CP I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. I was happy to let this camp portion of this election discussion die. So when I don't post about it - I'm accused of avoiding things. And yet I damn well know if I were to bring it up again there would be those telling me STFU and let it die.

As for the comment about me being in an abusive relationship; I struggled many years to get out of one so I don't really appreciate jokes about this.
Cory is many things, but seriously?? WTF? That comment is so f'ing far offbase it borders on slanderous.
Deflect, avoid. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, people can be pretty mean when they catch you doing scummy things. I like the victim complex you are working with though.

Meanwhile, Nenshi said he’s glad a company has spelled out for voters which candidates are believed to be development-friendly. “It tells them exactly which candidates to avoid,” he said.
Did Nenshi actually say this? In this context?

I'd suggest the preface of the quote is wrong - it's not a question of pro or anti development at all.

Actually I'd agree with Nenshi on that one anyway.

I'm quite interested in what the context was, because if that was an accurate quote, it would change my vote.

I am not Cory Morgan.
I have never met him or Jane, nor am I part of any political party or lobby group.

I am not a pro-builder/developer either. I used to work for one and sat in on UDI meetings in Northern Alberta. I am unfamiliar with the Calgary Builders and the builder lobby group.

I am actually sick of developer politics, otherwise I would still be working in the industry!

What I do care about is misleading facts / figures by our current mayor, and how blindly people will follow a charismatic leader.

I am well aware how "off site levies" work and for Nenshi to call it a 'subsidy' is misleading. I disagree with his devisive politics .

Ahh, so you care about Nenshi misleading people, but are bending over backwards to defend the Morgans' effort to mislead people.

Hypocrisy, thy name is 1stLand.

I actually see very little wrong with this. It's an employer being honest with their employees about business interest and which candidates may have an effect on the business if elected. I've always preferred working for companies that were honest with their employees about cash flow/business dealings than those who played smoke & mirrors.

Unless they also scheduled a "how did you vote?" meeting for Tuesday morning it's basically an endorsement.

I have no issue with it either. I think it just comes across wrong since it was sent as a memo. Easy to pick it apart.

In 2010 and again this year I've engaged and talked with my employees about the election, their wards, issues, and who is running, and even who I like in their ward. Oh and I harass them to vote (starting last week with the advance polls, giving them time off to go and do it).

If my company was trying to influence me to vote in a particular way, I would ask at what point did my employer turn from paying me a salary into a lobby group paying me a salary.

I would tell them to go stick it. Who I vote for is none of their business.

The mere fact that a corporation is trying to influence my decision is atrocious at worst and unethical at best. I hate when business, or any other outside influence gets in the way of the democratic process. I really do.

Regarding the subsidy, suburban home owners better get the lube ready, because once Nenshi gets re-elected and Council axes the development subsidy, the developers are just going to pass the cost back onto the consumers. No question. Even if it didn't get passed, the rest of us are lubing up anyways as we speak. Either way, Calgarians are going to get the lube job, subsidy or no subsidy.

I don't want to vote for any of the mayoral candidates.

Maybe I can just vote to replace my alderman.

I don't agree with you whatsoever. I have my own business and while it has absolutely nothing to do with building and development, I can totally see the developers point of view here. Its not that I agree with them, so let me make that clear, but I see why they feel the need to ask their employees to consider certain candidates.

I'm in securities. If one party (because its not a municipal matter) were to take a position that I thought would hurt my business I would not only vote against them, but explain to employees why they should as well. Is that lobbying? Sure. But anyone in a similar position would do the same. My employees are free to do what they like, but of course I'm going to suggest the candidates who are best for me and my business. There is nothing wrong with that.

I also own a house in the suburbs. Can you explain how I should feel the need to "lube up"? I'm not following that part of your argument here.

After creating an essentially counterfeit organization and website, in a clear effort to advance your own political agenda, on the eve of a municipal election, and you are seriously lecturing people about transparency and accountability?

Unbelievable.
