I think it was Monohan who took Horak's spot. It's all speculation, of course.
But I'm betting if Stajan comes back, Street is sent down.

For a 6'5 young player he sure plays soft along the boards. Colbornes skating is behind the the rest of the team.
Jackman is a sub par skater but at least he hustles and makes his shifts matter.
Burke's Colburne trade is not favorable for the Flames unless Hartley can get this guy to become more competitive.
Did we give a 4th round pick for Colburne, too much form what I have seen so far.

Still not a lot of shifts or minutes, but in this last game he actually had a couple of pretty good shifts. Above 50% on the dot after the Columbus game. Still not a goal against.
Baby steps, but seems to be improving, and we're not in a rush. I have nothing against him being on the team right now. He'll now have some time to actually get into the system.
Considering the big centers we'll be facing on the next roadtrip, I think he'll get a little more responsibility, along with the other big guys.

I like Burke but not sure what he sees in this kid. He just doesn't seem to have the desire to want to be better and do what it takes to be successful.

Why do you say that? What has he or hasn't he shown to you that indicates he doesn't have the "desire" to get better? Obviously he needs a lot of work IMO, but based on the limited exposure we get to him, not sure we are seeing a lack of desire.
I'm also not sure what is with some folks concern with How this impacts Horak. If he was a slam dunk for earning his spot, they'd make room for him, but as of now they obviously feel he can benefit from the AHL, and the fact that Colborne's situation allows the Flames to be less flexible with him than they'd probably like right now doesn't really have anything to do with Horak. If he earns it, he'll get his spot, worrying wether Colborne has actually earned his isn't worth it for now.

On most nights he is the biggest player on the ice and yet all nights so far he has been invisible. Someone with that size and decent skillset should be imposing their will on the other team.
So far not impressed.

Serious? Boston, Toronto didn't feel like he wanted it bad enough and Colborne has always had desire issues and it is no secret.
The kid is 6'5 and plays like Theo Fleury but without the skill. He is skilled but he hasn't shown he can use it in the NHL or really in the AHL.
The kid has lived off hype and not what he has done on the ice in the NHL. I don't think it is fair for him to be dressing while Horak is in the AHL and has worked his butt of at every opportunity.
I don't like the message it sends when this kid is getting to play while contributing almost nothing nightly.
So in short, I don't like Colborne because of his effort level.

For me it would be what the F did he do to stay up?
I don't think Horak was bad last year or in pre-season but much like Colborne so far he hasn't shown me any reason that he needs to be in the NHL. I found him to be enitrely invisible for the most part which is good from a stand point that he isn't making big errors out there but you probably want to show more if you want a spot in a crowded forward group.
|
I agree. Horak hasn't done much to jusify his NHL time. He isn't good enough to be top 6 nor gritty and big enough for a true bottom 6 player. IMO, Horak is the type of prospect the Flames should be including in a package to try and upgrade in a position of need.

You tell me he lacks desire, then you compare him to Theo Fluery without the skill? Fluery and lack of desire don't go together.
I think people need to realize we are talking about pros. Things don't have to be 100% fair. Colborne's situation does allow him to stay up with the club while they evaluate him, which isn't entirely fair true, but if Horak and others can't see the Flames are playing people for the most part who have earned it, and the Colborne situation is a bit of a one off as the organiszation tries to fill the future funnel, that speaks more to their character and smarts than it does the Flames. I'm sure people playing in our system understand what's going on with Colborne and that they still truly have the chance to earn their opportunity.

Not really a fan... he doesn't use his size to its full potential. I really wish he could be a physical.

His a former first rounder, 6'5'' center and still is a few years away from his prime. Still lots of time remaining.

He had a strong game last night.
He was engaged, he was skating, he was getting the puck deep...Not sure what else you can expect with the limited ice time he has received. He is never going to be a physical force.. we knew this.
As long as he keeps working hard in practice he should become a serviceable NHL player over the course of the season.

Wtf? Fleury had more drive and determination than any other Flame in history.

That's because he barely plays even when he is the lineup. 5 minutes or less of ice time won't do a player any good.

My mistake. My point was he plays like a 5'6 forward not Theo Fleury. I should have said he plays like a midget because he can't compare to Fleury's jock strap.

Bumping this in honour of Colbornes clearly best game so far against Anaheim.
Also;
Maybe it's just the novelty value, but watching several young players develop is pretty interesting

Liked how he played last night, was noticeable on a few occasions. Id like to see him string more of these types of games together because even with limited ice time he will still have to show he can make something of it.

Colborne was mixing it up and creating chances. He is a big boy on the ice and the Ducks seemed afraid to get in his way.
If he can continue to grow his confidence, he's going to be a great checking line center (3rd line hopefully). However, getting ice time with top-six forward is never a bad thing either. Lets him explore his offensive side somewhat.
