Will they play Ramo next game?
Not trying to bash Old Mac but his numbers have been pretty bad. His "big" saves, in my eyes, have come from his bad positioning and slow lateral movement. I can't see why the staff is rewarding mediocracy in this situation.
That said. Is it time to give Ramo a proper shot at the number one spot?
I for one hope so. Joey was a great back up for Kipper when he was needed but the guy just isn't right for the job.

He wasn't terrible tonight and made a big save later in the game to keep them in it. MacDonald will likely not play because it's time to give Ramo another start, not because he wasn't good enough to get the win.

Yep, I think they will play him. Let's see how Ramo does against the Sharks.

There are two kinds of people in this world. People who think Ramo will start the next game, and people who don't.

I see his play this way too.
Sure he's made some beauty saves, but it doesn't matter if you can't consistently make all the routine ones, and at least at a .900SV% level (which, imo is the level of starting goaltending). He's quite slow at getting up after he's down. Luckily he can cover up the puck with his body well. He's been a tad above average so far and has given them points in 4 of 5, but few of those games were really won on his back. Well maybe the Habs game..
You've got to give Ramo his chance. I don't think our fortunes against San Jose are drastically better with either tender in, but Ramo does have that unknown factor still, and if there's any time to explore it, there's no better time than now. Maybe he has the ability to come out and steal a game for us. If not, then were our chances really that great to begin with? Nothing to lose here.

The only thing I'm sure of is that I miss Kipper.

JMac has played more than well enough to remain our starting goaltender.

Hartley loves the way MacDonald is playing so I expect to see him in the next game and beyond. The only way Ramo gets a start is if Mac has a bad game.

Sucks that Ramo might get his next start again the best team in the league at the moment. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it would be unfortunate if he gets shelled on Saturday night.

What a weird schedule. I expect that MacDonald will get the start in SJ (which is fine), and Ramo will draw into one of the back-to-backs in Phoenix or Dallas. I would also expect MacDonald's performance on Saturday to determine who will start on Monday in LA.

MacD is quite possibly the worst puckhandler for a goalie I've ever seen. He makes routine saves look exciting. He's done some good work for us but he is not an NHL starting goalie. It's be nice if we could see what we have in Ramo. I'm mystified that Mac has started 5 games in a row.

Ramo has to start. He needs a turn and see how does in consecutive games. This is a season of development so lets not waste it in false hope and keep playing a plug like Joey.

I doubt any of our current goalies will play in consecutive games on back-to-back nights. So Ramo should be guaranteed to start at least one of the next three games. Possibly two.
76 games to go, he'll get his chances.

I agree. He makes routine saves looks awesome because he often has to scramble or strive to make them. And almost half the goals he has let in so far have been from 25' out or greater.
I hope they let him get shelled by San Jose before we put Ramo back in though. I don't think it's prudent to throw Ramo into a potential confidence killing situation like that.

Mac is what he is. A quality backup. Quality backups tend to give up some not so good goals against, otherwise they'd be regular starters. The Flames really have two quality backups at the moment in Mac and Ramo. We pretty much have to expect shaky goaltending this season and possibly for the next couple years.

I don't really have a special need to defend MacDonald and would prefer to see Berra and Rämö get some starts. But he isn't terrible, more like slightly below average.
Also, numbers at this point don't mean much. He has a better SV% and GAA than for example Brodeur, Rinne and Bäckström (and Lack and Fasth), and is pretty close to Quick.
That said, yeah, I think Rämö deserves to start for a change.

No one knows what we have in Ramo yet. He has only played one NHL game in 4 years, so it's 2 early to say we have "two backups".

You'd think the Flames would have learned something after the way they rode Kipper to death. Joey Mac isn't Kipper, why not spread the load a bit more?

Nope there's a 3rd. People that don't care. There's 70+ games left in the season and I'm pretty sure that Ramo is going to get his share of games but at the same time it's not like goaltending has been an issue for the Flames and until MacDonald has a stinker I don't see a reason to go to Ramo unless it's back to back games.
