You really think Butler is an actual NHL player? Yeah right, are we watching the same games? This guy is pathetic excuse for an NHL player

???? I get the hate for Butler, but saying that he is dragging down SOB is ridiculous.
SOB is worse in his own end than Butler, and can't skate to save his life. The good part about Butler, is that we have him until the end of the year and then he is gone. I wish we could say the same about SOB.

He's playing in the NHL, right? He's an NHL player.
You're not making sense.

I made this point in the game thread.
Butler makes spectacular mistakes, O'Brien makes unspectacular but otherwise crippling errors as well.
O'Brien does one of his characteristically lazy HORRIBLE passes, the kind of pass that requires effort to fata it up so badly, that leads to an icing. After the icing, running around a little, Butler pulls the McGrattan from earlier this season and O'Brien helps everyone out by setting up a fantastic screen-on MacDonald.
Comedy of errors. Goats, both of them.

I wasn't as down on him as most people here a year or 2 ago. He was still young but he hasn't progressed at all since he got here, in fact he might even be worse now. It's time to move on. I don't see how Smith or even one of our rookies down in the AHL could possibly be worse.

You are right they ended up with 3 2nd round picks. 1 from the initial trade and 2 from the trade to LA.
Flames will have nothing after Butler and Byron leave.

They also paid over 8M for a player who didn't play well for them at all and ended up as their 5-6th dman
not to say a better deal wasn't out there

I think both Butler and SOB are NHL-calibre players, but pairing them together is like an Oilers-level of badness.
One of them has to sit, or go to a different line. Or team. Or league.
I think Butler still has time and potential to put it together as a #4 guy.
I don't really know enough about SOB to say if there's any hope of him ever contributing.

RR trade was a salary dump and its in the past...no need to even consider it one way or the other. Smith should get a shot
I will say the penalty butler took tonight was BS...there were 100s of tiny hooks like that all night long
