I am sure you people who are involved with the actual civiccamp.org are upset as well, and I can see why. If someone went to that site instead of yours, they might think you were idiots, just based on the site design alone.

Then some of the things they want to do...its just so far down my list of priorities! Frisch was talking about resurfacing the playgrounds to ,make them more handicap accessible. Honestly, that's laudable and noble. I'm not so much against it as I just don't know how you justify spending roughly $40,000 per playground in the wards when there are so many other issues. A councillor here ought to be concerned with traffic, transit and where the thousands of other commuters will go once they redo Shawnee Slopes and start building Providence. Start there, and work your way to issues like playground access.
Well I am going to write in Slava from CP

Just like the Tea Party, we have a very small but loud minority of people. Look what 2-4 people in Calgary were able to accomplish in the span of one day. We had our major newspapers and mayor respond to these people.

To parody something, it has to have some exaggerated feature or self-important quality which you can legitimately mock. Further, to be successful, parody either must be broadly obvious or, if your subject is sufficiently well-known, exceedingly subtle and clever.

This poor attempt is unsuccessful because its main content, the ratings of civic candidates, has no parallel on its target site or within the organization it purports to parody. It therefore fails on point one: it is not actually mocking anything substantive. It also fails on point two, because it is neither obvious nor subtle, it is simply an amateurish copy of the original.

To "get a kick out of it" only shows the puerile imagination of the originators; they imagine that their target audience can be entertained by rainbows and report cards. Further, the vehement criticisms they receive actually confirm their belief that they are in the right, because they have riled up the hippies and struck a blow at the liberals - or so they imagine. That they have actually only riled up anyone with the least sense of aesthetics and shame completely escapes their limited perception.

In short: small amusements for small minds.

Not sure if your familiar with Cory Morgan's politics, but this does fit better with his Tea Party brethren. The guy is a self-professed libetarian and it surprises me he even bothered to use government bureaucracy to register with at all.

I'm sure he's going to pat himself on the back for "generating discussion" and getting his message out there, but most rational voters of Calgary will only see this as an unnecessary and selfish stunt that serves to marginalize his viewpoints further.

If you had taken a course and could only produce what I saw on that site, you should go back to SAIT and demand a refund back.

Seriously.

I may not agree with all Cory Morgan's actions , but I support his right to execute these political stunts. We live in a democracy.

FL does a scummy thing and then gives BS non-answers when asked about it. So glad someone like that isn't in public office.

Nobody is saying that Morgan doesn't have the right to build a website and assign letter grades of his choosing to election candidates. What we're saying is that it's juvenile and classless to co-opt another organization's domain name and logo in what can only be described as a deliberate attempt to mislead people.

It would be like someone registering the domain calgarypuck.net and hosting forums with a very similar colour scheme and logo as this site. You can be sure that Bingo wouldn't think kindly to that, and rightly so!

He can do whatever he wants, and the rest of us can feel free to call him out on being a sleazy grandstanding demagogue.

I very rarely agreed with First Lady's political views, but I always respected her opinions and thought she was an articulate and intelligent proponent of Alberta's far-right. No more after this stunt. This is nothing more than petty trolling that reflects poorly on everyone involved.

No what I am saying is that the Tea Party is a very small but very vocal group in the states (just like Morgan is here). While some members of the tea party may be libertarian, the majority of libertarians do not support the tea party.
A stunt like this would not fly in the U.S.

A couple questions come to mind having read through the phony CivicCamp fun

1. How sad is your life (and how much free time do you have) that you need to spend the time and effort a mimic a site for a municipal election?

2. Why do right wing parties and their supporters consistently try and attract the support of the mouth breathers who are already voting for them anyways, at the expense of the people they actually need (i.e. non-mouth breathers) to vote for them to win?

3. Isn't the correct term for what Mr. Morgan does known as trolling? I believe its giving too much credit to call him an agitator.

4. You can't find a better catch than a professional troll FirstLady?

Whether or not I agree with it, which I don't, what I've noticed reading these posts and the website is that the Morgans are trying to prove a point that is self-evident when opening the page. It's tough to say they aren't up front about what the 'group's' purpose when the first link on the page is to a blog post clearly stating just that. For those of you stating that they aren't up front with this, it's right there.

Whether or not I agree with it, these last few forum pages have proved their point to themselves without anyone who has commented noticing that they're doing so. They have you eating out of the palm of their hands right now.

Working collaboratively??

You make essentially copy their site, domain name and logo and make a mockery of their work yet you somehow expect anyone's first thought is for them to work collaboatively with you?

Mind blown at the thought process behind this...
Who in the right mind would think this is a good idea and would think other people would react favorably to this? Were you expecting high fives or handshakes? Or a "Way to go Jane! You sure showed that volunteer organization how ridiculous they look by setting up a mock website"

Her name's on the site too and she's not apologizing for her involvement.

Sounds her and Cory truly deserve each other
