This was an "in person hearing for hit", meaning it had to be 5+ games. 10 games is deserved.

Get that d!ck out of the game. He is probably the most useless guy in the NHL and should head to the KHL with Yak....

Incorrect. Just because the hearing was in person, doesn't mean it had to be for 5+ games. A player has to be offered an in person hearing if the NHL wants to suspend them for five or more games, but after the hearing, they can still elect to go with a reduced amount. This is what happened with Ryan Clowe in February 2013 when he left the bench to fight Chicago, and received an in person hearing and a two game suspension.

The player can choose to waive the in person hearing if they wish, but can still get a 5+ game suspension if the NHL wishes. Duncan Keith did this and received 5 games for his elbow on Daniel Sedin.

Interested to see what Lappiere gets after tonight (if anything) for his hit on Dan Boyle

10 games is probably the right call here as it is his 4th suspension

That looked more like a battle for the puck gone wrong, it didn't have the vicious intent that Lapierre's hit did

When are we going to start handing out career suspensions? A guy like Kaleta absolutely needs to be threatened with this. 10 games, and an early notice that the next one is his career

Don't even have to do career suspensions, but start giving suspensions that have some real weight to it, like 20+, 40+, a whole season.

If Matt Cooke can learn to see the light, so can a lot of these other guys, but these suspensions are not really cutting it as a teaching method.

(That said, 10 games is starting to be something.)
