I wonder what Yakupovs' linemates think of that.

They probably echo his sentiments.

With a comment like that... It would be stupid for the oilers not to trade him ASAP. How can a team have him in their line up when he has that attitude?! What's worse for them now is that I imagine they have been planning on trading him and now he's worth half as much knowing you're taking a player that has that attitude.

I could see them trading him it buffalo for Tyler Myers. Worst part of that one is that the oilers would win that trade if they got rid of yakupov while getting a young dman like Myers

not sure if adding an underperforming defenseman on a 7-year contract worth 38m for a former 1st overall pick would be "winning the trade". I could see mutual interest in a deal involving those two players though, but surely not straight up.

Ehh, I don't think Myers could land a 1st rounder at this point. Yakupov obviously could, and a good one.

who knows ... teams get desperate. Mind you, Paul Gaustad fetched a 1st not long ago and Filip Forsberg was flipped for old Martin Erat. Myers is still young, he just needs a change of scenery badly.

Then some teams in California or Florida should be the ones taking a look at him where the players aren't constantly being evaluated by fans of traditional hockey markets.

If I was the Oilers Gm, I might start dialing to get a feel on the temperature on the trade market for Yak. Ugly attitude.

What a great quote! The oilers are the gift that keeps on giving. I honestly can't see a quote like that coming from any other dressing room. Toxicity at its finest.

It would be WW3 around here if Sven said this. Makes me appreciate him for being a pro.

An attitude problem like yakupov's is a huge hit to his value as a prospect. I could see other pieces being included in a trade for Myers but no chance buffalo includes a first round pick in the next few years for yakupov. You have to look at what both players ceiling and basement potential are.
I would say yakupov's ceiling is a VERY streaky goal scorer who may (though unlikely) score 40 goals in a season one day. There is lots of evidence already that he has an attitude problem (including evidence outside of this comment). He was the feat overall pick in what most scouts considered the weakest draft in more than a decade. Plus he does not have the makings of a championship style player.
Myers has a ceilingof being a Norris trophy candidate/winner. A guy who can play 30+ minutes a night. He is 6'8" but skates extremely well for a guy that size. He would instantly be out in the top 4 on the oilers and his minutes could be better controlled cause he wouldn't have to play the powerplay. His contract term is long but his cap hit is managable if he remains a top four defenseman. The downside is that he has gotten progressively worse every year since his rookie season. But there is a real possibility that he needs a change of scenery to get oh his development back on track.
I would take Myers over yakupov right now with no other pieces involved... Even more so if I was the oilers who need to desperately make some changes and do something bold. This is the exact kind of move that macT said he was looking to make when he got the job.

Eakins will probably lose this power struggle with Yakupov. How many coaches are these kids going to get fired?
And you thought the Flames 2005-12 were coach killers.

Oiler fans thought that they had hit rock bottom with their last place finishes. But their start this year, their general unpreparedness, the inability of their team to figure out how to play team defense tells me that bottom is coming and soon.
The Oilers are about to reap what they started by drafting similar winger types with their first round picks, failing to get anything after the first round that's amounted to anything.
The line is going to go from "They're building something special up there" to "How did they mess this up so badly"
The NHL might be a little bit happy about this, hopefully the Oiler failure happens so that teams and fans won't find it acceptable to sit in the basement year after year collecting draft picks with no obligation to actually improve the franchise.
As much as Oiler fans are claiming this is an early season slump, their play dosen't make me think early season slump, it screams badly built team and a coach that can't teach them how to play a 200 foot game.
And good on them, I'm tired of the something special crap and Lowe's smug arrogant stance.
We need a strong Oiler's team.

If I were the Oilers GM, you couldn't get me to trade Yakupov any faster if you covered him in dead plague rats and set him on fire.

Where did you get your last part of the quote from? I watched his interview on Edmontonoilers.com and that last part wasn't on it.

It's in the Edmonton Journal story that devo22 posted: http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...031/story.html

I doubt oilers. Com would put that on their website. Pretty selfish.
