Ducks Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Return

Pretty excited about this, as I've hated Anaheim ever since they became less 'Mighty'. However, at 8PM ET today, Anaheim and Ottawa will square off, and to celebrate their 20th Anniversary the Ducks are returning to their Mighty roots.

Pictures from Icethetics.info:

And a sneak of the classic Eggplant jersey with the new Reebok cut:

I don't know about you guys, but I'm jacked this is happening. I seriously hope that the feedback on these jerseys is immense, and Anaheim sees a strong calling from their fans to drop the boring black and gold. They used to look incredible, and I miss this team so much. They're going to look awesome tomorrow

What do you guys think? Do you care? Do you hate their current look as much as I do? Do you miss when the Ducks were Mighty?

"That name no longer has any meaning for me." (I wish I knew how to insert a Darth Vader gif).

Anaheim had the stupidest team name in all of sport, in all of the universe, as far as I'm concerned. Just plain "Ducks" is better, albeit only a little. Credit to Brian Burke on insisting on dropping the silly Disney movie reference from their name.

I prefer the new name, but they need to go back to the old colours and logo.

(and Hiller consistently has the best masks in the NHL)

They need to bring in Emilio to do the Ducks Fly Together speech before wearing those bad boys!

Besides nothing says team spirit like shedding your Team USA jerseys during the final game of an international good will tournament and coming out wearing your pee wee league hockey uniforms. Really the only way you have a chance against Team Iceland.

That is incredible. I saw the one pic they posted on Twitter, but did not know he'd pay homage to that hilariously terrible 3rd jersey.

While I always hated the Disney tie-in, I thought they had a decent marketing strategy. Between them, San Jose, and Phoenix capitalizing on the "in" colours at the time, I always thought that was pretty smart.

Love that they're going with the retro ducks stuff, and that mask is amazing. Glad they took out the "mighty" portion of the name though.

I thought the name change was a condition of the sale of the team.

Since Disney no longer owned the team, they changed the name to separate the "Anaheim Ducks" NHL team's brand from the Disney-owned "Mighty Ducks" brand for movies and related merchandise.

I've never watched the movies and always hated that the team was related to the Nazi-like Disney company.
Least intimidating team name ever, even the Oilers can kill a Duck.

The Mighty Ducks were my other favourite team as a kid. Seeing those unies is going to be very nice.

Actually LOVE this jersey and I hate the new ones. If they wanted to change their team identity, taking the mighty out of the name wasn't really successful. They should either be the mighty ducks or just change the name all together

Awesome! I was never a fan of the "Mighty" part, agreed with most that it was lame. But the jersey design / colours is a lot better than the current ones. I've always felt since they switched that the current unis may be the most boring and lame in the NHL.

Not saying they need to permanently switch back to the Emilio era unis, but the old colour scheme should at least be considered. Considering how much early 90's colours have blown up again lately (check the new NFL Pro Bowl unis for further confirmation), it'd be the perfect time.

Looking back with a little nostalgia fogging the mind, they do look nicer (or at least more interesting than the bore-balls Ducks jersey), but personally, I've always hated these jerseys because of what they did to the rest of the league.

The Mighty Ducks were the biggest reason for the the downward spiral into terrible jersey and cartoony logos in the league. Instead of putting out jerseys that had longevity, everyone started all of a sudden to be concerned about what colors were cool and what they could market to kids and non-hockey people. Everything started being looked at through the lens of marketing, not what make sense long term. Logos and jerseys became complicated, cartoonish, and sometimes just plain embarrassing (remember the St.Louis trumpet jersey?). Almost every team suddenly had a snot-horse, fishermans friend, or some other 3D version of a previously good logo.

Thanks for nothing, Emilio.

The Mighty Ducks name was a 15 year embarrassment for the NHL. It should have remained forgotten.

Those jerseys are awesome. Anyone else thought this thread might be for the announcement of D-4?
