Icon59 [News] Oilers Scratch Yakupov... Again

Quote:
Nail Yakupov will be a healthy scratch Saturday night.
He has 10 shots and no points in four games this campaign to go with a minus-3 rating. Oct 12 - 7:10 PM
Source: Elliotte Friedman on Twitter
Quote:
"He’s going to be an excellent player in this league, but rather than let this keep going on and the struggle become deeper and deeper, I thought it was time to hit the reset button, get him out of the lineup, let him watch a game," Eakins said.
"I’ve always found it’s a great way to get a new perspective on the game when you’re struggling. But that kid has such a passion and a work ethic that he’ll rebound quickly."
Quote:
Nail Yakupov will not play for #oilers vs Caps. LaBarbera starts in net. Is 1-2 against Washington.
Quote:
Former No. 1 overall pick Nail Yakupov could be considering a move back to Russia to play in the Kontinental Hockey League, according to a report.

At least they're holding players accountable for poor performances, but frankly there's been little to no development strategy for their players so this is kind of like beating your kid for not understanding the rules you didn't tell him.

Nail will rebound.. whether it be with the coilers or another team. I hope they sell low and Nail becomes a perennial all-star.

#### you Edmonton.

Oilers should have drafted a d-man instead of Nail, or traded their pick or both.

Only 5 games in...but what makes me love our start through 5 games so much more is how terrible the Oilers have been to start the season. On topic though - I think Yakupov is the piece the Oilers might eventually trade for some grit, defense or goaltending help, and to clarify I felt this way even last season.

Should've drafted Ryan Murray.

He's Blake Comeau with more skill. Does not possess a great hockey IQ. To me he looks like he may round into a Rene Bourque type guy that scores 20-30 goals and drives coaches and fans crazy. You expect more from a 1st overall pick but this is the Oilers.

What do they expect from gifting 18 year olds top line minutes in the NHL? Do they have any expectation to earn anything at all? No structure at all and they wonder why they lose with all this talent.

I just hope Ryan Murray eventually proves himself to be the next Ray Bourque or something.
