Everyone can keep doubting the flames but other NHL teams better start respecting them cause they are not going down without a fight! There isn't a single passenger out there on this team... A 100% buy in from the kids to the vets. Love how this team plays and every guy is contributing... even the ones that aren't scoring. Huge shot blocks from guys like bouma and backlund just to hold on. I've watched a lot of hockey to start the season and there is no team in the NHL working as hard as the Calgary flames. Period.

Although the Hudler-Glencross-Stempniak was on the ice for both PP goals going 2/4 tonight so probably not the best time to pick that battle

Backlund seemed a bit off even before taking that block shot tonight. Pretty much everything else is sunshine and rainbows at this point though.
Watching what Sven did on his callup 2 years ago (cut short by the genius of Feaster wanting 50 contracts - featuring guys like Kolanos). And what Monahan is doing now, makes me livid when the apologists are still saying that BAck's "is still young".

At this rate he's going to be a 3rd/4th line centre upon Stajan's return. What's going to the be the excuse this time? Can't blame Brent Sutter any longer!

Just go get some Corsi stats showing he's outplaying Sid Crosby. This is the common and more accepted rebuttal.

Cut short by the NHL/CHL's emergency recall rules.

Ugh. If there's one place a win would mean more than any other to get it would be in Anaheim. The new Flames MUST break the curse. And a curse it has been. Biggest test of the season so far by a mile. If they can free us from the losing grips of the Honda Center, I don't even care what they do in the game after that. (although that's a lie.. but seriously..we need this)

I hope that somehow, some way, they can string together such a strong start that they'll won't have to dig themselves out of a giant hole to compete for a playoff spot. I'm a bit of a dreamer, but if we can get ourselves 7, 8 games above .500 in the first 6 weeks or so, it would put us at a great advantage when the season hit its inevitable rough patches down the road. You build yourself a big enough lead on the other teams early by riding the momentum, and you only have to worry about being a .500 team for a while after that. But of course bringing it back to reality, this road trip is going to be extremely difficult. I'll be happy with us scraping half the possible points out of it.

You better be ready to play. GFG!
anyone have the video of this?

Just watched the game. Strong team effort against the Devils who play like Minnesota -- clogging up the neutral zone.

Really happy to see Sean and Sven showing more chemistry and to add to the gif parade...

Honestly, I think that the Flames are more skilled than many give them credit for. They are far from world-beaters, but they are also far from the sorts of collections of AHL-calibre scrubs that characterised the young guns era.

That backlund comment is exceptionally dumb. He IS young, he IS improving. He is NOT a first line centre(duh). But he is a first rate 3rd line centre. Saying stajan could push him to the fourth line is a little dramatic, the guy's in the shape of his life and playing as well as he can be asked to. Again, not young? You must be 14

And he was a late first round pick NOT SIXTH OVERALL! take a look at the guys drafted after him before you criticize. Perron was taken one pick earlier, and he's a somewhat similar player with more offence but his two-way play can be ugly. (Scoreface ugly). There's just no justification to criticize a guy that's essentially over-performed for his draft position.

Wait some of CP is ripping on Backlund now? He has very quietly been one of the Flames best centers so far this season and has looked darn good in the second line roll. Forget the fact that he has been fantastic in his two way game as well.

Jamie Benn, Matt Halischuk, Wayne Simmonds, TJ Galiardi and David Perron (No - he was taken 2 picks afterward) Say Hi.
