I don't think its out of the questions for the Oilers to come back 1-9 and be pretty much done.
Oh man... I know what I want for Christmas already.

Just further to the "Oilers are bad" theme to this thread, Dan Tencer's blog today makes all sorts of excuses and pleads with the fan base to not overreact to losing because he sees some "good things" that trend toward the positive. Sad really...

Too funny. Just keep drinking the koolaid Oiler fans.

Worth pointing out that the last team to draft first overall three years running won the Stanley Cup five years later, but none of the three players they selected were on the team that won the Cup.

I don't give a rats a$$ about the Oilers team but I have to say i feel a little sad for their fans. How can you watch so many first round picks turn into a total flop, when you watch other teams like Chicago take a couple of early picks and turn them into a stanley cup winning team, twice. The Oilers haven't even made the playoffs with all of these first round picks, how can you continue to support a management that keeps rolling out the same excuses and the same poor performance.

That's cool, who was the last team to pick 3 in a row?

Yup. Or rather Quebec, when they made the picks. Sundin, Lindros and Owen Nolan.

The thing is, there's no way the return for Hall / RNH / Yak is in the realm of what they got for those guys. Ain't none of them Lindros. Lindros was basically Crosby circa 1991. He netted two first rounders plus Forsberg, Hextall, Steve Duschene, Chris Simon and 2 other dudes.

For Sundin they got Wendel Clark and Sylvain Lefevbre, and for Nolan, Sandis Ozolinsh. That's the kind of return you'd think for the Oiler guys - maybe you get Marc Staal and a first for Yakupov, maybe you get whoever the equivalent of Wendel Clark is for RNH, good veteran players who aren't superstars. But the point is, Ozolinsh and Clark weren't a huge part of why the Avs were good. Clark wasn't even on the team. Those are important pieces to add to a winner, but they aren't the backbone. They can't trade any of their guys for a Forsberg, And I don't see a Sakic anywhere on the Oiler roster, either.

... Also, I don't really see an opportunity to trade for Patrick Roy anywhere in their future.

My google-fu is weak. Beaten not once, but twice, with the answer to that one.

So when does Dallas 'The Magic' Eakins get fired?

Ralph Krueger is probably sitting at home howling in laughter with a beer in his hand.

Having Patrick Roy fall into their laps helped their cause.

Should also add that they turned Lindros (their 3rd first round pick) into a plethora of good players...Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, a 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault who got flipped for Roy). The Oilers decided to keep Yakupov.

Traded for with assets they drafted. Thibault was Quebec's 10th overall pick in 1993.

Falling into their laps probably meant taking advantage of a glorious situation the Habs were quickly forced into. No doubt about it though the Nords and then the Avs were a great drafting and developing team and even if the Flames don't "tank" this season, in order for us to correct this ship we have to a top drafting and developing team.

Sorry but Yakupov and Nugent Hopkins aren't worth a top 10 first rounder right now let alone additions to that.

You really have to think that the blade is hanging over Lowe right now. I just can't see how Katz could tolerate much more failure.

Katz is an absentee owner, he doesn't give a ####. He's another Wang, using his team ownership to leverage real estate.

10 more years of 6 Rings Lowe!

What, the sword of Democles?

I would think that sword hangs over anyone that reports to Lowe who is the king of creating scapegoats.

Plus there's no way that Katz wants to break up his Oilers action figure collection, nor lose one of his guests at the Friday night pajama party.

Lowe has a job for life as long Katz owns that team.

I think it is really starting to sink in to oiler fans. Typically in October we get a bunch of rebuttals and delusional expectations from their fan base. The silence is really telling.
