It's kind of like Justin Morneau wearing 66 on the pirates. Looks cool. My assumption is he's showing love to Mario haha

I tried googling some info on NHL-CHL transfers, but it's separate from the CBA and most of the info seems to focus on the deal that expired prior to the CBA negotiation. So, I have no idea is what I'm saying.

I thought that a player could still be sent down after more than 9 games, with the only difference being that his contract doesn't slide.

I hope he stays here all year but gets sent to the world juniors, that would be awesome to watch him there.

He wore #20 in junior.

The guy belongs in a #19 Jersey.
Sakic, Yzerman, Toews... all guys that his demeanour and skill set resemble.

That's probably right. Sent to junior though, not to the AHL.

This is how I understand it too
But its always either a team keeps their junior player, or send him down before the 10th game. I can't think of a single time a team used up a year of a contract just to send him back later on

The kid has performed to date, no doubt, but I'm going to reserve judgement. Games 6, 7 and 8 of his 9 game tryout are on the road against Anaheim, San Jose and LA. Those games should be used as his barometer. If he keeps his head above water against the likes of Getzlaf, Kopitar, Carter, Thorton and Couture, then he'll have earned it.

Sbisa, Grigorenko.
Actually with Grigorenko he was sent back before game 20 or so to ensure that he stays a RFA longer. Something like that.

Then he'll look like Glencross. I dislike when they recycle numbers all the time... Widman looks like sarich out there this season haha

What are your thoughts about trying to get Iggy Back?
Now that we have Monahan, we finally have a #1 center to play with Iggy
I am thinking we could trade Glencross to Boston and we can get Iggy back.

I thought we discovered when Sieloff wasn't going back to junior that the Flames could change their mind by February 10 or something and still send him back, but he'd still lose the first year of his ELC? I can't rememeber.
Also, I haven't been able to get the Monorail song out of my head for the last week!

If Monahan is sent down and he is in the top 3 for points i will truly question their intentions to be competitive and truly put the "best" product on the ice for this season.
We were discussing Monahan at the game last night and i ask the Flames just 1 simple question is there a better Center iceman in Abbotsford than Monahan.
The answer is clearly no. Not to mention he is the most productive Center on the Flames team.
Usually a team is afraid to keep a talented Jr eligible kid up because they are a step behind or they made the team but can't crack the top 6.
They can not use that excuse with Monahan. He has been a offensive difference maker so far every game.
They will look like asses if they send him down, they have to put their ego's aside and realize they are not burning a year of his contract if the kid is directly contributing to the Flames success and Nobody with a rational hockey mind can argue he isn't.
In fact Monahan is making his line mates better.
|
My biggest concern going in was the team not letting the player decide.
A) they cut him before he even plays an NHL game because they don't want to burn a year on his contract.
B) they keep him on the roster all year as a marketing stunt despite him looking way over matched at the NHL level.
Those concerns are going away very quickly as they haven't taken him out of the line up yet (thought they'd have him play 2 sit one play 2 sit one etc to get him 15 games into the schedule and not 9), and they are putting him in a position to succeed.
Very good outcome, and a lot more than I expected.
This isn't done with mirrors, ... he could hit a wall but what he's doing is a hint to what kind of player he's going to be regardless of whether it happens this year or next

Actually think this was the plan. But he has played too good to take him out of the lineup, and Stajan got hurt, so he became needed more quickly.

That appears to be an elite player you got. Wish he'd been around one pick later. He's making it damn hard to send down. I wonder where he would be taken if a redraft was held now. Much higher, I'd think.

He can be sent down to Ottawa until February.
