Ya, would be nice to have had a chance to see him against the other prospects. Sounds like he is having a decent start to his season.
It is awesome to see our top drafts picks doing well from the 2013 draft year.

i like the end lol
Really excited on the prospects so far. Though I tend to side with moon (yes I know people here don't like him) and realistically most will be busts or long shots, I still think we have a great future. Some will bust, some won't...... I think Klimchuk is going to be one of the guys that fulfils his potential. Just a guess.

This is becoming such a stupid retort, but especially applied to Klimchuk considering that he was drafted by the Flames primarily on the strength of his 200-foot game, and not on the faint hope that he might be an offensive superstar.
At the time that Schremp was drafted, there were already MASSIVE holes in his game that were pretty apparent to just about every casual hockey observer outside of Edmonton. Namely, that he was a lousy skater, played a terrible five-on-five game, possibly had some character issues, and generally was the happy beneficiary of gobs of power play time thanks to having the very good fortune of playing for the practically unbeatable London Knights.
There is NOT A SINGLE CURRENT PROSPECT IN THE FLAMES ORGANISATION THAT EXHIBITS ANY OF THE SAME FLAWS. PLEASE STOP DRAWING COMPARISONS TO HIM AS A WAY TO TEMPER HEALTHY ENTHUSIASM.

Not much love for Klimchuk compared to Porrier or Monahan
I wonder if he was drafted 22 and Emile 28, if we would've had a Morgan fricken Klimchuk thread by now.

I'm not comparing Klimchuk to Schremp. I'm comparing Flames fans', in this thread, to Oiler fan hysteria. Videos of how fancy a guy's stickhandling isn't cause to say "oh man this guy's going to be a big scorer for us, book it". Klimchuk's nothing like Schremp, that's not the point, the point is... calm down.

It has more to do with Poirier playing in Penticton, preseason games, and a WJC camp then what order they were picked in.

Do you honestly believe there to be a lot of "fan hysteria" in here leading to predictions about Klimchuk's bright future as a "big scorer"? The most lofty praise he receives are a tempered comparison to Eberle (with less offence), and a suggestion that he MIGHT be a future top-six player.
I cannot fathom how you managed to interpret a misplaced, excessive amount of enthusiasm from these comments here. It's practically bewildering.

Do Flames fans not have a good reason to be excited right now? I haven't seen anyone posting outrageous predictions about Klimchuk's future as a Hart Trophy candidate.
There has been a modest suggestion here that perhaps Klimchuk has more offensive skill than most had assumed prior to the draft. Would you agree that he seems to have more skill than has been generally presumed, based on this video?
This seems to me to be a good, positive observation that most certainly does not require a visit from the optimism police.

This video pleasantly surprises me as in my casual viewing of the Under 18 tourney, Klimchuk looked like the steady eddie guy on the top line. Not particularly skilled but positionally sound and a fine complimentary player to McDavid and Sam Reinhart. At one time he reminded me of Iginla, setting up with a slap shot about ten feet from the goal and firing it into the goalie's stomach. Okay Iginla scored a lot but he also took a lot of shots. Even so, we won Gold and Klimchuk finished tied as the second leading scorer for Canada with 3 goals and five assists in 7 games.
Here's a nice article on Klimchuk.
Quote:
Although he has never seen Klimchuk play, Hartley was quick to point out that he likes the attitude of the Pats' star.
"He was not planning to come to Calgary on a vacation; he was on a mission," added Hartley. "(He's a) great kid. You see fire in his eyes when you talk to him. For a coach that's great because you want players with emotion, you want players who compete just like (fellow first-rounders) Sean Monahan and Emile Poirier.

Yah, I get pretty annoyed when the Debbie Downers always feels to the need to tell other people to not get so excited. Uh, most people are already aware that they need to temper expectations. They don't need you to tell them that. But there's nothing wrong with having a little fun and having a bit of hope that one or two of these guys turns out to be a special player.

Especially with regards to rather tame suggestions that a first round pick MIGHT be a top-six player. It is hardly like anyone in these parts are anointing the kids as the next Stanley Cup dynasty.

I have to be honest. It may be that I am overly optimistic because I so want all three players to pan out (just to shorten the rebuild). I think Klimchuck gets a bit of a raw deal because he was a late first. Had he not been injured I think there would be a little more hype around him as well.

Seriously, calm down with the telling people to calm down about other people telling others to calm down. We need to let calmer heads prevail here and everyone will get down with the calmness in due time. The more calming you attempt to force on people the less calming there will be, preventing the natural calming effect and have in the opposite effect, a storm before the calm. So stay calm and carry on!

Played peewee hockey with Klimchuk. Even back then, you could tell the kid was special. He has an unbelievable work ethic and will do whatever it takes to get better. I'd be shocked if he didn't become a full time NHLer. Might not be an allstar in the NHL, but the potential is definitely there.

Local boy done good. There's been a nice influx of Southern Albertans on the team. I was very disappointed to hear he was injured for all the camps. I would have liked to see how he stacked up.
On a side note, if I'm not mistaken Klimchuck played on a line with Connor McDavid & Sam Reinhart for Canada in a tourney this summer. Maybe we should possibly look at drafting one of those boys...? Has anyone thought of that?
