Thumbs down Why do the Flames Fans Never Stand Up for a Goal?

I understand that it's just a regular season game, but I love hockey so damn much, and regardless the scenario of importance, I always have the 'jump' for a goal because it's just a reflex for me.

I watch every Flames game from here in AZ and obviously after every goal in the regular season, regardless of any team, it will have some flashes of the crowd celebrating. Seriously, from camera point of view, majority of Flames fans just sit there like they're too lazy to get up to celebrate.

Monahan scored a beautiful goal off of something he beautifully created with a great around the back pass and all I see are people just clapping and sitting in their seats.

I haven't been in Calgary since the 2004 playoffs when we had the run, but it seems so weird to see people not excited about goals anymore at the Saddledome.

I'm sorry to offend anyone, but I truly felt compelled to make a thread about it. Why aren't we as excited for goals as Jets, Canadians, Oilers, and kill me for saying this, Canucks fans?

I stand up for every goal (unless it's a blow out loss and the goal is meangingless). I'd say 80% of the fans in my section stand up its second level and never in camera view. I agree much less stand up in the lower bowl, not sure why. Old? Bad knees?

You're only seeing the bottom few rows, the people paying $300+ for a ticket. Move the camera up 20' and you see a different Dome.

Edit: I'm sure it's less than $300 with the STH discount but close enough.

I've noticed this as well...

I was in Riga, Latvia for Dynamo Riga's home opener last month (KHL) and compared to their fan's, our's are pathetic... it actually makes me mad, I always stand up and cheer, now it feels slightly awkward, like it's forbidden or something here? WTF?!

The KHL game, the crowd was singing all game, huge flags being waved around, the other team would get booed or yelled at whenever they had the puck, such emotion, it was the best hockey game I have ever been to compared to flames playoff games few yrs back...

Come on, where is the excitement, where is the love for the team, the city? It's like everything is frowned upon, all these old hags saying how even celebrations should be kept quiet and not "over the top" ... whatever.. now I'm a few beers down and frustrated. ####.

Actually, its pretty similar in those markets.

And very similar with Oilers and Canucks fans.

Canucks fans are the best, it is hard to compare our fan base to theirs....we are not worthy.

I always stand up when they score, and I sit in the lower bowl. Drives me nuts when the people beside me don't though.

I stand at the dome, at home, at the bar and even in my convertible (if I had one) when Flames score.

Nepotism!!!

Seriously though, I was watching the game on TV tonight and was happy to hear the crowd roar. I've been to the the Dome many times and have been embarrassed the last few years with the crowd but it's understandable with the half assed effort that they are paying top dollar for. This team is worthy of the cheers win or lose IMO.

I don't know if I buy this entirely. I know it happens, but just went back and watched a couple of the goals, and in every shot there was about 70-89% standing in the first level, and pretty much 100% in the second level.
Certainly on par with pretty much every other team you listed.

Before the flames score one, i'm usually on the edge of my seat. When I anticipate a certain goal I can barely keep myself on the edge of my seat. When they score, depending on the chance I am jumping and high-fiving.

If it's Monahan goal then extra celebration is in order. Lot of Montreal fans were seated today.

The lower bowl is mostly corporate tickets due to the expense...these people are lame for the most part. The higher up you go the more crazy people get

Because different fans celebrate goals, plays and generally cheer they way they want and don't have to conform to whatever you think is best.

It gets tiresome listening to people whine about how other people cheer at a hockey game. As long as people aren't being rude or obnoxious who cares if they stand up after a goal or not.

My friends and I always stand up for goals. I do agree that it's kind of dissapointing when fans around us don't.

I care because it diminishes my experience at the game. Its like going to a nightclub with no one on the dance floor.

The lower bowl is where the whole 'library' nickname came from but at the money they pay I'm not going to criticize them for not standing up or not cheering loud enough. I usually find the upper bowls are the more boisterous fans and the camera angles at the Dome don't show much of the upper bowls at all.

I go to half a dozen games a year in the first row, and as I jump up and pound the glass after we score it seems anyone withint 15 feet is just sitting there. Hey to each their own, I can't help it, like someone said it's a reflex thing.
