I hazard the size of the homes the veterans have, wouldn't be conducive to often getting in each others hair.
From an asset management perspective, having some guidance, and perhaps keeping him sorted some, would be better than an 18 year old rich kid having free reign.
Makes sense, that they'd handle that once he officially makes the team.

Yes, that still doesn't make a good comparison though. Lemieux was still playing when he took Crosby in. Very different situations.

Good article, i think he is a player in the making. I wonder if we should send him back so we don't burn ELC years.

Actually his scoring ability itself is kind of scary since this suggests he can collect points even without playing well and his junior record is a result of this. But this is pure speculation.

Fooled all the scouts, but can't fool you.

So, what would he be getting paid during these 9 games? His ELC contract? Or something else? Do the Flames cover his hotel and living costs? I can imagine being 18 and having to rent a hotel room for a month being very expensive if he is not getting paid at a pro level.
I can picture him at hotel village waiting for the bus to take him to the 'dome for games.
I am sure guys pick him up but it gets you thinking.

His base contract is 925K, so if he plays 9 games he would get around 100K or so.

I think the Flames have to cover his living expenses for a certain amount of time/games but could be totally wrong about that or that could only apply to guys they bring up from minors and not to guys starting out the season.

Plus, he got a $92,500 signing bonus once he signed his contract.
Here's what the CBA says about a player in his situation (he's not on a minor league recall, but the same rules apply for players joining the team out of camp who are not team veterans):
Quote:
13.12 Transfers To/From Minors. In the case of a Club moving a Player either to or from a minor league club, the following procedure shall be followed:
(a) The Club responsible for the move shall provide to the Player for a period of up to 28 days (through the 28th day or earlier upon Club's notice to Player that the move is permanent) a reasonable single hotel room or, at the Player's option, a daily payment in an amount equivalent to: (i) the per diem rate set forth in Article 19 for a Player Recalled from minors; or (ii) $55 for a Player Loaned to minors. If Section 13.12(d) applies, the Club shall provide the aforementioned daily payment or the applicable accommodations under Section 13.12(d) for a period of up to 56 days (through the 56th day or earlier upon Club's notice to Player in writing with a copy to the Central Registry and the NHLPA, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereof, that the move is permanent). In either case, where the Club has provided the Player with accommodation, the Club shall provide an additional five (5) days accommodation and one-half per diem for each of the same five (5) days after he has been advised to obtain a residence or at the conclusion of the 28th day (or 56th day if Section 13.12(d) applies). The Player shall be allowed to keep his hotel room at Club's expense while the Club is traveling on the road during the said 28-day period (or 56-day period if Section 13.12(d) applies).
|
So, once his 9 games are up, the Flames will either tell him to find somewhere to live, or hand him a plane ticket back to Ottawa.

Dreger just said on TSN that Monahan is living with the Hudler family. Goes against what the articled said.

That works out great for both guys. Monahan can learn to be a pro from a great professional like Hudler and Jiri can use Sean to reach for things on the top shelf.
