Hervey stated after yesterday's game that Reed will be the coach for the rest of the year. In other words he's lying because when and if Montreal beats Winnipeg next weekend all the playoff teams will be locked up. That's just my guess though.

Actually there is no point in firing Reed at this point as there is nothing to gain from it. The season is lost and all that would do is cost them more $$$. I see a house cleaning coming in about 4 weeks though.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have acquired import defensive lineman Alex Hall and a 2014 second round draft pick from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for non-import offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld and a 2015 fourth round draft pick.

Only player playing well for the Blue Bombers..they have to trade. What a joke of organization!! I know there is a possibility that Alex Hall might be bolting to the NFL but we don't know if he will be able to stay in the NFL. I also I know the importance of acquiring a non-import OLine but it's not like Neufeld is tearing up the league. Maybe there is a conditional trade there that if the Riders wins the Grey Cup, Riders will trade QB Drew Willy to Bombers for nothing.

I bet Riders fans are planning the Grey Cup parade now.

Besides they can't hire anyone to replace him right now anyways. So, the Hervey's thinking is probably this :

While he's put his time in learning the game over the past decade, bouncing between a few CFL teams, in the same fashion in how he automatically got a DC position as his first gig in the league a decade ago, thanks to his dad running the Esks, this job will be mainly his because of his dad's past with the club.

Just like the Edmonton way, they'll be celebrating the past just as much worried about the future; grainy late 70's footage of Hugh walking the sidelines and lifting the Grey Cup, and in general, stirring up all those good memories of decades gone by. Rick Campbell with the obligitory soundbites on how he wants to define his own chapter with the Esks etc.

If he can have provincial court judges in his pockets to overturn CFL imposed bans (AJ Gass helmet throwing), and nod and wink future consideration trades with teams (getting a good player in return for sending Maas to Hamilton AFTER the season), then maybe he can survive up there a while, likely longer then Hervey has left.

Last week, six days after sustaining a concussion, franchise quarterback Mike Reilly is rolled out by the Edmonton Eskimos in a must win game against the Montreal Alouettes. The Eskimos muzzled their “Top Dog”, virtually handcuffing the young quarterback by limiting what he does best: his ability to run, improvise, and attack a defence with his unmatched will to do whatever it takes to win.

That plan went south in a hurry and by half time, Reilly was back in his cage. The next quarterback up for the Eskimos wasn't Kerry Joseph, who has 11 years of experience under his belt. Joseph only had two reps all week during practice. I'm scratching my head right now.

The Eskimos had planned all week long to go with Jonathan Crompton, a young and promising quarterback from the University of Tennessee. Problem was, Crompton had only thrown 22 career passes in the CFL heading into that must win game!

Let me recap: you toil with the decision to start your franchise quarterback after he sustained a concussion just six days ago, limit his package – removing what he does best, don't practice or play your experienced gunslinger, and go with a virtual rookie in a must win game!

Wow, I know there's no giving an inch or concessions in football, but on behalf of the dwindling fan base, what is going on?

Now this week, with the playoffs virtually out of reach and the season almost over, you want to remove the muzzle on Reilly and set him free to attack the game – like he should have been last week – and risk further meaningless injury? I don't get it! Now is the time to get Crompton the reps he was given last week. Again, I'm scratching my head here.

I know there is a disconnect between management and coaches with who is second on the depth chart and that's why we saw Crompton last week instead of Joseph in a must win game.

I'm splitting hairs here, but I dont believe this 100% true. Maybe more like, winning friday gives us 98% chance of hosting a playoff game.

There is one scenerio that we could win this game, and still end up third in the west.

For some reason, I wasn't thinking about Calgary having yet another game against BC yet. So, Calgary winning doesn't guarantee that they win a tiebreaker over BC in the end.

Calgary won over BC by 12 points earlier this year, and BC beat Calgary by 4 points. So for BC to win a tiebreaker over Calgary at the end of the season (having lost to Calgary tomorrow), they would have to win by more than 8 + the margin of Calgary's victory tomorrow. And that only would come into play if Calgary loses two straight coming into that game, and BC wins both.

IF Calgary beats BC tomorrow night, the only way Calgary can finish behind BC is if Calgary loses the last three games, BC wins the last three games, and BC beats Calgary by enough points (at least 10, assuming Calgary's win over BC is only 1 point tomorrow)

No matter what happens in any other game, Calgary beating Sask in two weeks guarantees that Calgary finishes ahead of Sask (though that could be guaranteed before that game starts)

Yeah thats close.

Under the one scenerio that I could find where Calgary wins this week but comes third, the points for/against with BC dont come into play.

Cgy wins Fri, but loses last 3. They finish 12-6
BC loses fri and wins last 3. They finish 12-6
Ssk beats cgy (as per above) loses to BC (as per above) and win their other 2 v. EDM. they finish 12-6

3-way tie breaker goes down to best win % vs. tied clubs (BC 4-3, SSK 3-3, CGY 3-4) so BC wins division.

Once you place BC first you have to start the tiebreaker over to determine second between CGY and SSK. This goes to season series which after all of this, SSK would be 2-1.

This is the only scenerio I could find where CGY wins friday and comes third. I believe its the only one, and it would be quite the longshot.

So, its a very small chance, but not a clinching game for CGY

If Friday's game is getting out of hand, in either direction, it will be important to keep scoring points and not start bringing in the bench in the fourth quarter.

That two-way tie breaker between us and BC could very well come down to that and be the difference between coming first and second.

It concievable that in the last game of the season, it could come down to not whether BC wins, but whether they win by say, 15 points.

Not likely to happen, but it make for an interesting game, where Calgary could be losing but go into victory formation to end the game, or other weird scenarios.

LOL. I'll give the guy this though he's one helluva a DC, not heading coach material. He'll be pretty high demand if and when he gets fired for a DC role in the CFL.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke believes he has done enough to earn the right to stay on as head coach next season.

Burke said considering the "personnel deficiencies" on his roster and the lack of a true starting quarterback, he should get the chance to turn things around.

He said having his two bosses with interim titles makes life interesting but working with acting GM Kyle Walters and interim president Wade Miller is much better than what was previously in place.

Saying the three work together quite well and have a similar philosophy, Burke hopes all three can carry out their set plan for the future, which he admits will take four years to complete.

Burke has six wins in 13 months as head coach of the Blue Bombers.
