He's been a fine coach... I mean really he's coached a team that's snagged 4 out of a possible 6 so far, that's expected to finish at the bottom of the league, and the games have been entertaining.
Not sure what more he could realistically have done at this point.

Fast forward to three games in...
The team has been entertaining, hard working, and is unbeaten in regulation. They have bought into the system, bonded as a team, and are possibly in better shape than any other team.
But a 4th liner, who was on the ice longer than he should have been, tried to pass through Sedin instead of chipping it up the boards.
You're fired.

Lol, this is tough to argue.

Hartley seems to have the control over the team that a coach should have, players look like they are buying in. Not sure that our loses had much to do with being out coached.

I really don't mind Hartley. He is a players coach and the guys playing on the ice right now look pretty motivated. I can't remember the last time I saw a Flames team compete for an entire game three games in a row like this version of the Flames have. The D has been a bit of a sideshow and goaltending has been average, but i like the jam this team has so far, and I like Hartley's attitude.

I have no problems with Hartley and this young hard working squad that is a product of the coaches laying down what they they expect and are teaching.
Hartley is all right in my books and i like his straight forward personality.

I think Hartley will survive this year and then be replaced by Ron Wilson or Marc Crawford.

Are you kidding me?! This is ridiculous. Out coached? The Canucks have a top level roster and we have the 2nd lowest cap in the whole league.
Hartley should be commended for the start to this season, not slammed.
Your train of thought is not only flat out wrong, it's freaking ridiculous. "Blame the coach" for an OT loss against one of the best teams in the league whilst we're icing a roster with no #1 d-man, no #1 centre, no #1 goalie, no first line...like...just...

This team is working harder and playing more as a team than any of the other iterations in the last 5 years - and they're doing it with a terrible roster. Blame the coach?!

Are you saying Hartley didn't tell Wideman to stumble and miss his check on the game winner?

Blaming Hartley for any of the 3 games is absurd. If anything he is getting the most out of the bulk of this roster.

Of course. Here on CP, with some posters it's never the players fault... its the coach's.
It was never Iggy's fault our team played the way they did... it was the coach's fault. Five coaches later and it was still the coach's fault.
Guess what? Iggy's gone and the team is finally playing like a team, working their asses off, and playing the whole 60 minutes. Is that due to coaching? Nope. Just a coincidence.
Hartley has done wonders with this team. I've enjoyed watching every game so far. I don't care if they lose every game this year as long as they keep playing with the drive and enthusiasm that Hartley has instilled into his players. They've been a pleasure to watch (for a change)... mistakes and all.
Bravo Hartley... keep up the good work!
P.S. I wonder how many people on this board would take Iggy back now? Not me. IMHO, Iggy was a coach killer. Glad he's gone. Let the good times roll.

He's making them earn it. If they keep up their strong play, there's no doubt that they see more PP time and more ice time in general. It's an 82 game schedule, there's literally no rush.

There is no right coach for this team, never was, never will be. Just ask CP.

Hartley obviously has the team buying into their identity as a hard working bunch of underdogs with an all for one philosophy. That is no small feat. He's got the young guys playing with confidence. Coaching is the least of the team's concerns right now.

Swap Iggy's name with Bouwmeester and you've got just as valid an argument. In fact, the team started missing the playoffs when they added Jay and a full season of Jokinen.
There's definitely reasons the coaches Calgary employed after Darryl Sutter aren't currently head coaches of other teams, and 2 of the 3 before Hartley made the playoffs.

Can't blame him for the mistakes last night...if BM would have made an easy pass up the boards and came off the ice we wouldn't be talking about him being "out coached" look at the lineups

It's almost as if the team is less prone to panicking than some of the fans are...

Iggy was the captain (the others weren't) and the team generally follows the captain's lead. If the captain doesn't buy in, neither will the rest of the team. Iggy just did his own thing, no matter what the coach wanted.
Fortunately this team now has a new captain and he is playing the way the coach wants.... and the rest of the team is following his lead.
