I know that the Flames are in rebuild mode and that expectitions are low but is anyone else feeling frustrated?... Once again they worked hard and played well to build up a solid lead only to throw it away again. The Flames should be 3-0-0 now. I know there is a lot of good points that we can take comfort in but I do feel frustrated and disappointed that we have dropped 2 points not because the Flames were outplayed but because they give up stupid turn overs and let the Caps and Canucks back into games that should have been over!!

Monahan looks really good. Only saw the first two periods, was happy they came back to win despite looking less than polished. Flames were the much better team in the second.

Baertschi was 'the other winger' on three separate two on ones tonight.

All three times the other guy shot.

I thought the Flames were just absolutely relentless on the fore-check and it gave the Canucks trouble. The Flames obviously don't have the talent to compete in an 82 game season, but it seems like they might actually be a fun team to watch that doesn't have any quit in them.

I really wish someone could make that long shift in the Vancouver zone into a video. I believe it was in the second after they had the pp and were totally dominating the Canucks. Probably the loudest the dome has been since the 04 cup run.

The good:
- Monahan, Backlund, Brodie, Baertschi...the young players are looking good
- 50 minutes of good hockey
- This is the first game I can remember in a while where I saw most of the team play hard and buy in. They kept up with the Canucks in terms of speed and you can tell by the number of back checks killing chances early that they didn't see it coming.
- Introducing the team to Pacific Rim's theme [/nerd]

The bad:
- The last 10 minutes
- MacDonald scares the hell out of me. One pretty save, but he throws away his system so fast that he needs to make miracle saves just to get back into position. I get that he's a great locker room guy, but please limit the number of games he plays.
- Butler/SOB. Something has to change. Too many brainfarts between the two

Baertschi's hustle and speed helped Monahan get his goal. Without him skating hard to get into the play that wouldn't have been a two-on-one.

Flames clinching the division in the 2005-2006 season against the Avalanche was crazy loud.

Iginla's goal against the Blues and his 500 goal celebration were loud also.

I do agree that the Dome was very load after the awesome couple shifts, awesome to hear and see.

It was nice to see that Monahan's parents were in the house to see him score.

It's also great that his "celly" was a simple arm raised over his head. Act like you've been there before, even when you haven't.

I hope he didn't leave any unfinished business in Ottawa.

The lack of over-the-top celebration made me love Monahan even more.

I'm on vacation and watched this delayed, and I haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if its been hashed out already, but man is Butler poor.
Seriously could a younger Dman from Abby be worse? And wouldn't it be better for them to be up and starting to learn, over Butler who seems un-bloody-capable of learning!!
An exciting game and lets face it the team is gelling better than we could have really hoped for. Exciting times.

Yup, creating space by skating hard.

The Stempniak one he really should have passed, looked like there was space for a pass and it would have been a tap in.

What you wouldn't have gotten on TV was the standing ovation for the team in the second period during our PP when we DIDN'T score but the pressure and effort were relentless. People in our section were high fiving like it was a playoff game and the fact that the players drove, cared, and competed like they did had to have been heard and registered by Hartley etal.. awesome feeling to be a part of.

I think there has already been more instances of someone back-checking and catching up to the play and stripping the puck s0 far this year than there were in any of the last few entire seasons. Love it.

(sorry for the run-on sentence there)

Ottawa is a foregone thought at this point.

Whoever starts bringing up the "year of his ELC", "not enough minutes", "offensive confidence" baloney can put a sock in it.

Kid 100% deserves to be here. He's not only NOT over his head but is being an impact player, and not a liability defensively. (no more than our seasoned vets)
