Official, new Nintendo Console to be named "Wii"
Pronounced "We", it's not about you are me, but it's "Wii", this is the new name of the innovative console Nintendo used to call the Revolution.
I can't believe Nintendo's marketing guys came up with this, it's pretty horrible.
Here's what I think it should have been called:

"Hey guys! My mom just bought me Wiid! Let's go play some Wiid!"

The first thing I thought about when reading that was a kid screaming "Wii, let's go play Mario!".

Wii?? You've got to be ****ing joking. I've been a fan of Nintendo handhelds but The Gamecube was a complete dust collector. They should really quit making console systems.

What was wrong with "Revolution"?
As a matter of fact, with almost all tech companies I seem to like the code-names better than the final release name.

xbox 360 is a terrible name but it basically hits the nail on the head
Revamped system that's basically the same as the old one, no new direction taken, no innovation hence '360'

Maybe there will be a different name for its release in North America? Where did you hear about this?
Edit: Nevermind, I found it myself...
I dont think it matters what its called, as long as its a good system.

It's all a matter of personal taste of course, but it would take something of damned-fine quality for me to make the purchase, if the item was called "wii".

Another Odd choice...
I am truly intersted in the Console though, any alternative control input methods are exciting to me. Just look at the Ds.
What's in a name? I guess we'll see. My guess is.... not much.

This is a good name only if they have a 'Knights who say Wii' ad campaign for it. Otherwise, it's an awful name.

Just a publicity stunt heading into E3 in a couple of weeks. Read on a gaming site that Nintendo hasn't even trademarked the name yet. Sorta like how some movies have those fake websites and stuff.

Just like the N64
SOny really gave it to Nintendo. Nintendo seems to have forgotten gamers grew up, but are still playing.

Yeah, but at the same time, Nintendo is going to be offering a completely different gaming option this time. Sure, there will be those that want their grand theft autos or just use the system for sports titles, so they can stick with MS or Sony. But Nintendo is trying to broaden their market. The name sucks, sure, but the system is going to be amazing.

Meh. I'll still buy one. It's all about the games, not the name.

Keep in mind that for the most part, Nintendo is aiming at the Japanese market, where they are far stronger than Xbox, and can even duke it out with Sony. So the name is going to be "biased" to appeal to that market.
Having just checked the Wii site it went into the reasoning for the name. "We", the pronounciation, reflects gaming together with friends, family, etc. The two i's represent a unique controller, and expresses (I guess visually) the feeling of getting together to enjoying gaming together with others. (This from their site).
And if this thing has any of the power or momentum of their DS handhelds (which have been sold out on pre-order since they hit the market here) it should be an attractive system. I guess we'll see.
