Default Trucks...?

Im looking at the F150, Nissan Titan and Ram 1500... Anyone here have any suggestions on which is better or worse? Using it for around town usage and pulling my trailer in the summer... Looking to buy used 2009 and up.... Thoughts?

Between those I would go for an F150, although I am a GM guy.

My Brother In Law has an F150 and we've been camping with them a few times. his is an 08 and mine is an 09, they are very similar. Some things I like about his truck over mine are that although we get equal mpg pulling the trailers, his gas tank is much lager then mine allowing for many more km's on a tank when trailering. The other thing is that the F150 4 door has an option for a 6'(?) box, which is nice, where Dodge and GM don't have this in a 4 door 1/2 ton, you only get a 5' box,not too sure about the Nissan though.

One of my co workers recently (in the last year) traded of his 07 Escalade on a new (2012) F150 for his wife, he said the ride in the truck is just a nice as his Escalade ever was. For my next truck I will be seriously looking at a Ford. I don't like how the Rams ride, I find them to have louder cab noise and an over all rougher ride. The 5.7 is also much harder on gas. I have nothing to offer regarding a Titan.

Another note, my neighboor has a Ram and when we had our hail strorms here in Lethbridge this summer, his Dodge was beat to hell from the hail, like hit with a hammer bad. The damage is not noticeable on my truck.

Here's a good read on 1/2 tons. I'm looking at the F150's right now. With the ecoboost and max trailer tow, it's rated to tow 11,200 lbs. The 2014 Ram 1500 ecodiesel is intriguing, but it's a 2014 so you have to pay a premium right now for it. You can get 2013's for a decent price right now.

Get a 4 door/ crew cab, I went from an extended cab to a 4 door not realizing how thankful I'd be.

Titan has issues with rear axles and the rear diffs are prone to problems. Expensive fixes.

I had an 09 ram for a while and would buy another one.

For me, my choice was between the ram and the tundra- chose the ram because of price. When I test drove every other make, I liked Chevy next best- Ford seemed good but options were overpriced. Nissan was a fun truck to drive in the city, but I didn't like it.

I went with the Sierra (and still love it), but looked at the F150 and the Ram. My reasoning for the GM:
  • GM offered 0% with the cash rebates (end of model clearance)
  • Dodge (while I love the styling) had worse blind spots
  • A family member with a new Dodge is reporting worse gas mileage (Hemi doesn't have unloading cylinders)
  • I drive an F150 at work, and didn't want to drive the same truck on my days off.
While I assume that last point won't pertain to you, I have a few co-workers that tow with the F150 ecoboost and think its just the cat's pyjamas, so if you're only going with the 3 you listed, I'd go with the Ford.

I had an 06 and have a 2010 titan. I really like the styling and the engines have been awesome towing. Having said that, they are really dated now. I have a few buddies with f-150s and I have a 2012 explorer and the tech package in them is awesome. My 2010 titan doesn't even have bluetooth. I will keep mine for a couple more years but will seriously look at the Ford with the eco-boost then when there will be several years of engine use for a good sample size.

A full four door is a must unless you are a single guy and plan to stay that way.

I'm not entirely sure how being single changes that.
The full 4 doors are awesome.

The Titan is really outdated. It was due for a redesign like five years ago. I don't think they even mention it in comparison tests anymore as it's so irrelevant compared to the other trucks you mentioned.

I bought an F-150 last September and really like it. The extended cab actually has a lot of room so I wouldn't be worried at all about buying that. I say that as someone who is 6'3"...my kids can sit behind me and be comfortable.

I like kunkstyle's rationale for getting a GM because he didn't want to drive the same vehicle as his work truck. I would have done the exact same thing.

I went through the same process about 2 years ago and I chose the Ram. I still think it's the best looking truck out of them all, and remember that you have to look at it every day! Found the Titan was pretty bland, GM was better, Loved the Ecoboost but it was still too new when I was looking.

I think the EcoDiesel from Ram will be a game changer. I want to test drive one when they come out, but they are back ordered and won't be in lots until early 2014 I last heard.

The Ram has good towing capabilities, but does fall short on Payload due to the coil spring suspension. It gives it the best ride of them all, but you lose payload capacity. I believe the 2013 and up models come with air suspension as well.

The Ford f series of Trucks are the most popular truck in North America for a reason. Wouldn't hesitate to go that route, it's a huge recommend from me.

He is lucky then, the Titan is coming up on a major redesign and getting the Cummins diesel. I know first had the short comings of the Titan.

You keep saying that but I have never seen proof. It's like me making general statements like chevs have electrical problems because my friends truck blew out the PCM.

I have an 11, a friend has a 06 and another person I know two other people (09 and 10) that have never had issues other than maintenance.

Like any vehicle they all have issues. If there are things that are common issues I would like to know. Even when I go to Titan forums I can't find proof of common issues like the generalized statement you made earlier.

I had a chev blazer before and they were notorious for oil cooler lines failing. That was a common issue you could see in most forums. Again, I have never seen proof to back up the issues you mention. I have no doubt some Titans have
Had those issues but I am also sure so have every other truck after time

I really like the Titans, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a much better deal on a 2013 F150 at this point that is quite loaded. Ford seems to offers some ridiculous incentives on them.
