24 aces for Raonic as he beats Soeda in straight sets: 6-4, 7-6. It's great to see Raonic pulling it out in the tiebreakers. In fact, he won the tie break 7-0. Not too shabby. I realize Soeda is not even a 100 ranked player, but Raonic didn't miss a beat in the first match after his title in Thailand. Good stuff.

Milos to next play Chardy who was taken to the limit by a qualifier (tie-breaker in the 3rd set). Go Milos!

Both Tsonga and Anderson lost yesterday. Milos is the only seed left in his half of the draw

Tsonga flaking out helps Raonic's chances of moving up the points considerably. Kind of silly that both Japan and China are 500 level events given the wide difference in top-end talent at each.

Yeah I'm not sure why players are going to Beijing this year. Is Beijing offering more appearance fees?

Murray played this tournament the last few years but he's hurt this year. Nadal played it before too, one of Raonic's first ATP matches ever was in this tournament against Nadal in 2010.

Raonic wins again: 6-4, 6-3. He's off to the QFs and will play Lacko, a player I truthfully know very little about.

Girly - according to Wikipedia, the Beijing tournament is paying out about 2 1/2 times what Japan is in terms of prize money. That'll certainly explain the difference. Even if Raonic didn't already have a history with the Japan event, it would have been good to go. Easier points.

I don't know anything about Lacko, but hopefully Milos can continue his strong play. He could be on a collision course with Nieminen who has given Milos trouble in the past.

Dodig just beat Nieminen.

Milos up next against Lacko.

Milos with the break!

I love the matches where the commentators can't talk during points

Dodig has been playing well the last few months. Should be a good battle!

Nishikori is out. Beaten by Almagro. He will take a big hit in the rankings

Yeah, this is the timeframe where Nishikori's poor play will catch up to him. I think he'll be barely holding onto the top-20 after this week.

Raonic is 0-2 vs.Dodig, but is playing quite well right now. Should be a good match.

BTW, Raonic-Dodig match will be live on Sportsnet One at 9PM, according to Tennis Canada.
