I'd like to point out a positive:
After 3 days of NHL games the Flames have more points than the Oilers and Canucks.

Another 8 games of that from Monahan and he should be going back. He got his head beat in possession wise.
Stupid having both him and Baertschi on a line together.

Nah, not really. I thought both looked solid for the time they were given.

They did though. Monahan and Jones had 1 scoring chance for and 5 against. Sven was 2 and 5 respectively.
Its a silly choice by Hartley. And bad coaching move.

Then you're missing the point of what the Flames are trying to do with these two players. Years from now it won't matter that an October game in Washington Sven and Monahan were out-chanced, it will only matter what they learned and how they improved from these situations.

The fact that Rämo did not look terrible IS a positive. I mentioned it in the pre-season and it bears repeating: The Flames' starting goaltender has not played a game on NA ice in four years, and it will almost certainly take the better part of 15-20 games for him to get adjusted. Yeah, he does need to be better, but we should expect that he will make lots of positive adjustments over the course of the next two months. It's silly to complain about him after a 35-save performance in Game #1.

Not for nothing, but a lot of posters are saying we need to give the team a break because of all the young players, well really the Flames are still essentially a veteran team. The only players in tonight's game most wouldn't consider veterans would be Baertschi, Monahan, Brodie, and Bouma. I guess some might say it also applies to Street or Galiardi, but one is already 26, and the other has played 222 games in the NHL. Compare that to the Capitals who had more players under the age of 25 in the lineup, most of which could be big pieces of the Capitals future (Holtby, Johansson, Carlson, and Wilson). We're making baby steps, but hopefully they find a way to get more young guys into the lineup as the season goes by.

We fared better than both Vancouver and Edmonton in our opening game.
Went up 3-zip on a team that has had one of the top track records at home for the better part of the past decade.
I'm finding it more and more difficult to complain at this point..
Also I'm giving Sven and Monahan far more than 1 game to decide their fate.
If I were to be completely faithful to the meritocracy rule for ice time, Glencross would be out the door for Colborne tomorrow. But I do think we need him. We need him to wake up though. Where's that angry beast that basically scored at will through the preseason? (Maybe we should've kept BJones up just to piss him off haha)

You can't complain about a .936 even strength save performance. The team gave up 39 shots against.
Kipper's Ev Str SV% last year was sub-.900. This performance was nothing like last years goaltending.

After reading 10 pages of posts in this thread, I have come to the conclusion that this FORUM-"fan"base sucks.
Also I would like to know if "Erick Estrada" is actually a Flames fan? I've seen that name & the posts with that name about 2 years now, and they are not positive, AT ALL. It's like he wants to be different than others and bash this team to hell. Saying Rämö played bad, needs to improve because that ain't gonna cut it for the rest of the season while actually they played against probably the best attacking team in the league, road game, and he had 35 saves, where 3 of the goals were total flukes.

Couldn't watch the game but I like what I'm hearing: good effort, pushback and played like a team. That's all I ask for the next couple seasons.
And it's weird as hell not seeing kippers name. It will take me all season to get used to that.

It was a good effort by a lot of players tonight. They need to have that kind of effort on a regular basis.
On an aside, if Glencross can't get some consistency in his game this season, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to look at moving him while his value is still high.

- I liked that Hartley gave Galiardi lots of ice at the end of the game. You could see how bad he wanted to make up for his mistake.
- David Jones looked great. His skating makes him look sluggish, but he keeps up with the play.
- I gained a lot of respect seeing Russell stand up to Ovie
- The push we put on after the Capitals tied up was definitely a positive to draw on. I find this team far more interesting to watch than teams of recent past.
- Ramo was ok. Some of the goals were extremely difficult saves to make.
- Having not watched any preseason, I was impressed with Monohan. I always assumed that he would be sent down, but he looked surprisingly good. Very mature.
- It was great to see out break out and our entrance into the zone. It seems like Hartley is allowing for creativity as long as you are where you are supposed to be.
- We did not give Washington skaters much ice at all.
- I enjoyed TSN's telecast, and would swear Ferraro is growing some Flames love. May just be an underdog thing, but kudos to him for doing some research on these youngin's
Overall, the Flames looked much better than I was expecting. But I am conditioned to watch this team with Red-colored glasses, as I am a glass-half-full guy.

I just watched the game here on Game Center Live, which is the first time I've used it and I would recommend it for people overseas.
I thought the Flames played pretty well. After watching the last 5 years of lazy, mostly uninspired play, they pushed back and dominated the 1st, played ok in the 2nd and 3rd. A couple of stupid penalties need to be avoided, but the team looked alright.
My expectations for the team are pretty low this year. I'm just excited to see Monahan and Sven in the line up and watch the progression of Backlund and Brodie.
Also, Ramo wasn't horrible but he did go down and gets beaten by dekes quite a bit.

only watched the 5mins highlights so far and listened to the game on the radio... but to me the difference in tonight's game was Ovie and some stupid mistakes.
Here's hoping we can learn from these mistakes and make it difficult for most teams. Entertaining hockey in any case !!!

Positives:
- Good all around effort
- I like Jones
- Strong commitment to team defense, guys were coming back hard
- Got a point on he road, always good (even when you blow two 3 goal leads)
- In a playoff spot, never to early to look at the standings.
Negatives:
- Baertshci and Monahan 11 minutes and change each - why? Even if you want your better defensive players on the ice to preserve a lead, why not play these guys in OT? WTF are Galliardi and Street doing on the ice in OT over these guys? Baffling
- Not impressed with Ramo, especially in the shoot out. Started out okay, but when pressure mounted he lacked confidence. That siad, I won't pass judgement for a while.
