I'll take the lead. Will be an interesting third period.

Faceoffs still weak?

No I guess we shouldn't. Though it is rather odd as a Canadian team on a national Canadian broadcast not to get the "homer" comments isn't? The other six get the homer slant from TSN/CBC why not the Flames.

60.1 High-sticking - A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players and goalkeepers must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly.

It will be very interesting to see how this team comes out in the 3rd period.

Our consistency in terms of tempo and play style has been my biggest frustration as a fan the past few years.

From the first section of the rule posted. He followed through so not a penalty.

Beat to it, see post above.

That's not how I read the rule. Contact above the opponents shoulders is a high stick. It will be called as such unless its a normal follow through. A wild swipe at a puck is not a normal follow through but that contact was a normal follow through and therefore not a penalty.

Great to see them winning and a little more youth in the lineup this year. Think Bouma stirring it up a little is an element the team has missed for a while, he should see a little more ice IMO, especially after his preseason.

The Flames were standing around a bit in the 2nd and let the Caps back in the game.
If they come out with a hard-skating 3rd they might just pull off the win.

He's awesome. I think he was missed when he got hurt last season.

Disagree. If that was the rule, you'd have the canucks just putting their helmets at sticks. It's not like bieksa and the bunch have that many brain cells in the first place. If you want to put your face in front of a follow through, that's your own prerogative, but the shooter shouldn't be penalized for it. At all other times you need to have control of your stick, but you still need to be allowed to shoot the puck.

Hear what you want to hear, I guess.

Miller and Ferraro spent 80% of the first period stroking the Flames by talking about how tenacious and hard working they were. Called them the better team constantly. Also dedicated a good amount of time talking up Monahan.

Washington (Ovechkin) comes alive in the second period and that becomes the story. Not surprising they are going to focus on that, especially when it's lead by the reigning Hart Trophy winner and future Hall of Famer.
