Fascinating. The Republican base is a fearful, marginalized, extremist, pathological, religious, xenophobic, sociopathic group of individuals.

Wow, Now I feel inadequate for just calling them stupid.

Hey no worries! Perhaps one of the best rants I have ever witnessed on TV, and still applies today. Perhaps even more so.

Good rant here too from yesterday, I would be interested to hear all of your thoughts on its content:

House Speaker John A. Boehner, apparently sharing Obama administration alarm about a possible debt default, has told colleagues he will act to raise the federal debt limit even if he has to rely on the votes of House Democrats, GOP aides said Thursday.

It was not immediately clear, however, whether Boehner (R-Ohio) would stand by such a position publicly or whether it would prove to be a trial balloon allowing him to gauge the reactions of the GOP’s tea party wing.

http://gawker.com/gop-congressman-ma...dow-1440577868

In an astounding confrontation that took place yesterday at the World War II Memorial in DC, a Tea Party congressman from Texas appeared to blame the Park Service for denying veterans access to the facility — and then made a Park Ranger apologize for the shutdown. "How do you look at them and ... deny them access?" Rep. Randy Neugebauer asked the unidentified Ranger in an incredible exchange that was caught on camera by NBC Washington.

In fact, the Park Service has been invoking the First Amendment in order to allow vets into the memorial despite the shutdown making it illegal for the department to do so.

"It's difficult," the Ranger replied. "Well, it should be difficult," scorned the congressman. "It is difficult," the Ranger repeated. "I'm sorry, sir." "The Park Service should be ashamed of themselves," said Neugebauer.

"I'm not ashamed," the Ranger retorted.

"You should be," sneered Neugebauer.

As awful as this complete a**hole tea party republican showing nothing but utter contempt for everyone who is not himself video is, this is just an unfortunate sideshow to how messy things really are in Washington. Wouldn't it be great if citizens were actually able to elect someone who just literally wants to look out for the interests of that constituency, and nothing else? That right there is the main problem with the US government right now. Everyone you send to represent you in DC, regardless of party, is bought and owned by corporate money.

GOP infighting is starting, other GOP senators are now attacking senator Ted Cruz for causing the government shutdown. The senators that had voted with Cruz are asking serious questions as to what the aim of the shutdown is but he continues to evade questions. One Republican senator is quoted as saying

Quote:
“It was very evident to everyone in the room that Cruz doesn’t have a strategy,” “He never had a strategy, and could never answer a question about what the endgame was.”“He kept trying to change the subject because he never could answer the question,” “It’s pretty evident it’s never been about a strategy – it’s been about him. That’s unfortunate. I think he’s done our country a major disservice. I think he’s done Republicans a major disservice.”

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/1...3.html?hp=t2_3

What do we want? SOMETHING! When do we want it? NOW! Oi... No strategy other than cause problems. GOP members obviously weren't smart enough to take a look at even their own strategy before going with it and now they don't want to cave in to save face. Bad thing is Boehner won't allow a vote to reopen government until he is sure he has a majority of GOP on board.

Poor Ted Cruz.

Unelectable from the start, given a rope but instead hoist by his own petard.

I wonder if this is a bid to keep things from fracturing further. They've found an appropriate scapegoat to blame things on and can now claim unity because they were all 'misled'.

I don't think they can easily absolve themselves of this though. "I was lead astray" can easily be swung to "he's a follower that doesn't look out for your interest first" during the midterms

But you can easily absolve yourself if you are in an us or them system.

The reticence to credit the democrats or blame republicans is already visible.

John Boehner could piss on Ronald Reagan's grave, and 60-70 percent of the republican base would find a justification for it, a justification that meant not having to consider voting for the democratic candidate.

The system has already been rigged for these types of events.

Bad news for GOP, disapproval of the Republican party has jumped an astounding 60% since the shutdown. ACA disapproval has dropped from 39% to 30%. This is from the most biased GOP leaning new source in the US, FOX news. I really wonder what the actual approval numbers are from less biased sources

The blame for this shut down is on both parties. Should the Republicans have started off with a complete defunding of Obamacare, probably not. However, there ending proposal certainly makes sense to me.

If Obama wants to unilaterally delay the implementation of the employer mandate that why is it so unreasonable that the individual mandate be delayed for one year as well. The law was passed like it or not so implement the entire thing as it was meant to be implemented when it was passed or delay all of it for one year. Don't pick and choose what part of the law you want to implement.

Also if Obamacare is as great a thing as everyone seems to think it is than why are Congress and congressional staffers exempt from it. I don't think the GOP request, to all of congress and congressional staffers be subject to the law, is unreasonable.

The Democrats are just as much to blame in this shut down as the GOP.

Accidentally thanked this through Tapatalk when I meant to quote it.

Do you believe this? Democrats have no blame in the Republicans holding the country Hostage because they don't like something that the majority did. The two issues have nothing to do with each other.

Is the bank customer at fault for spending too long at the wicket when the robber comes in and takes them hostage?

Interesting things came up when googling the Congressman who yelled at the park ranger (Randy Neugebauer)
