I don't have a problem with what Roy was doing. He's standing up for his star rookie after the other team tried to injure him. It's a statement to his own team as much as anyone else, he's got their backs.

If we were up 6-0 and the other team's coach sent some plug out to hurt Baertschi or Monahan, I would expect Hartley to both have a conniption fit right there behind the bench and send McGrattan out to shove his stick down the throat of the first player in the wrong jersey he saw. In fact, I'd be pretty damn upset if he didn't do that.
I'd rather Hartley remain calm and send a message back. By all means, let McGrattan out of his cage but don't go after the opposing coach.

It's all a matter of opinion and I believe Roy is a terrible coach only hired for PR reasons. You're more than welcome to disagree.

Those are such terrible arguments.

1) Winning 6-1 in the first game of the season doesn't prove anything.
2) Coaches all around the league stick up for their players.. without getting physical themselves.

I would say your arguments on why he is a terrible coach are much worse.

How many would be so quick to defend Tortorella had he done this vs. the Flames?

Let me give you a hint.... starts with Z and ends with O.

Love the passion shown by Roy.

Also Love seeing Sarich leading the team in +/- early on. Was on for almost 20 minutes as well. Going to miss him.

Was it me or he did he look like he was in the best shape of his life? When he came out of the tunnel for the pre-game ceremony he looked fit.

Didn't get to catch the game but I wouldn't be surprised.

Kind of sad that we went after SOB when Sarich is a heck of a lot better.

It was more of getting rid of pouty ass Tanguay and the terrible contract Feaster gave him.

Anger Management course Mr. Roy. I think Patrick Roy became anger since he retired from playing hockey. I know he's been a hot head while playing but when he started coaching in Q, he wants to fight everyone. I guess that's his way of firing up his team. Oh well, it's his choice and I guess I can't argue with his method if it would work for him.
I remembered when Terry Crisp was coaching the Flames, he was vocal, loud and sometimes swears. It works and they won the Stanley Cup but some of the players led by Peplinski tuned out from him and managed to get the other players to followed suit. I guess we know what happened after that.. Crisp got fired. I hated Peplinski after that.

We got an even worse contract in return with Jones.

You can blame Tanguay and his pouty ways. The Av's had the flames over a barrel because they knew Tanguay's attitude would be detrimental to the flames. Av's won't be making the playoffs, but they knew Tanguay would be happy playing with skilled players and picking up points.

Have a hard time believing that Feaster wanted SOB for 2 years over only having to have Sarich for one more year.
