One interesting thing I heard yesterday is Eakins went around the players area and removed all pictures from their glory years. I think all the comparisons are starting to get to the kids heads and they haven't done squat.
I also found it interesting hearing Messier say the rebuild is over and it is time for the kids to prove it. Should be an interesting season. They still a long way to go and will probably be extending that post season slump to 8 years.
All that matters about last night is that the Oilers lost and at home is even better.
Trouba looked dynamite last night.
Pavelec made some huge saves such a good goalie.
Frolik is going to be such a good pick up from the Hawks.
Oilers lost a 2 goal lead

Resolute and You Need...far too often I have seen referees firmly put their whistles in their pockets for the whole 3rd period, let alone blowing them to award late goals in that EN situation...frankly, I was surprised that they didn't rule that Hossa was not clearly ahead of the two desperate Caps that tried to make a play.

just occured to me that Reimer played last night instead of Bernier... Any chance he was being showcased for a trade? Do you think maybe Joey Mac + for Reimer + would make sense to anyone?

Reimer outplayed Bernier in the preseason and earned the job for now. I don't think they're showcasing him. Right now he's the hot hand and I think the Leafs will just run with whoever is playing well.
Trouba looked good last night. I know it's only one game, but I'm very impressed by what I've seen so far. If he continues on this development path, he could potentially be a franchise dman.
The forwards continue to play pond hockey looking for the perfect passing play. Hall cost his team two goals with his blind cross-ice passes. Guy just doesn't come across as an intelligent person or player.
The defense is predictably still horrible. An absolute fire drill in their own end. Justin Schultz is still very bad in his own zone. Yikes. About as one-dimensional as they come - watch the Oilers throw huge money at him. They love that.
Dubnyk's .920 save percentage last year was probably an outlier. He's just not a good goalie.
Different coach, same problems. Obviously last night was only one game, but that team is NOT making the playoffs any time soon.

But team Canada! He outscored half of the NHL defensemen last year! Eh Magnum PEI
And against the Oil, at that. A lot of d-men look like franchise guys when facing the Oilers.
Blah. When Phaneuf faced the Oilers his first year he got totally pwned by Broken Hockey-Stick in OT. I think Hockey-Stick was Nugent-Hopkins 2nd cousin.

That + next to Joey Macdonald will be a pretty hefty one.
Can you imagine Trouba and Sieloff as a pairing on Team USA in a few years? Yikes..
IIRC They were a pairing already once.
Can't remember if it was last years WJC, the U-18 tournament, or on the U.S. Developmental team.
Edit: Pretty sure it was the U.S. Developmental team. Actually according to the article below they had played together for 6 years from their time in Michigan up to the U.S. Developmental team.

They didn't paly together at the WJC(other than the odd shift) but they were paired together at the U18s and were dominant.
I watched it to see Jones but Trouba and Sieloff stole the show for me. That U18 team was ridiculous.

I think Reimer is going to be their starter. Bernier probably has the higher upside and could be their starter soon, but was outplayed at training camp and will need to get past that first impression in order to make Reimer expendable.
That has to be one hell of a + if it's going to be MacDonald+ for Reimer.
