Personally, I hope that this never has to happen to a Canadian athlete but if Canada did end up in a position where they decided to boycott the games I would also hope that the athletes would respect that decision and get behind it (at least in public).

The point of the boycott would be to force the Russian politicians to see how bad this situation looks in the international spotlight and change course making the whole topic a moot point. If that pressure to change is not going to come from a boycott then we can hope that when the Olympics start and this issue starts coming up time and time again that the publicity becomes a positive influence for change.

I'll be interested in hearing what Burke has to say while he is there.

It definitely sends a bigger message than just a patch.

Nice! Eat it russia.
Did they hint that it was to support LGBT rights?

As of 2006 Germany had 55% support for Gay Marriage. Puts them 7th in the world (according to wiki)

It would be quite humorous to see all the countries compete while wearing rainbow uniforms especially the Ski Cross events and all Short Track Speed Skating.
Bold Statement by Germany sticking it to Russia lol

Why "especially" these two events?

Maybe those are the events where Germany is considered a favorite to win Gold.

They haven't confirmed it, but have hinted at it. The official statement says that the uniforms "were created using colors and materials specially tailored to the conditions in Sochi."

Because the athletes are all clumped together moving quickly and it would be difficult to tell the difference.

I'm guessing because they both involve a bunch of athletes battling for position in close confines. Would be kind of hilarious, and confusing, if they were all wearing various rainbow colored designs.

So now the Americans are openly thumbing their noses at the Russians for this law (and other geopolitical issues too....cough SNOWDEN...cough)

Article

U.S. President Barack Obama has picked two gay athletes to be part of the U.S. [Presidential] delegation to the Sochi Olympics and won’t be attending the event himself, moves interpreted as a snub to Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

France and Germany are not sending their leaders to the games either...

Really wish Canada was doing...something

...Other than beating the Russians on the ice...that's the status quo
