That sounds pretty good. We really don't need him for offensive duty when you got Russell, Wideman , Brodie and Gio. Basically he is a replacement for Butler on the 3rd pairing.

I'm not normally intrigued by waiver wire fluff, but i like this one.

Jersey fans on HF don't like this. Even better.

It could definitely be a good pickup but I am also very interested to see how Breen does in filling that role that you picture Urbom in.

Smith going onto waivers was a signal that Breen is going to get an honest look at the 6/7 spot. If Breen is successful he could not only displace Smith but also push Butler up to the pressbox.

I know CP in general doesn't like Butler but he may be a better #7 guy to have on hand to fill in for injuries instead of having to rely upon SOB, Breen or Urbom in the top 4.

It would be pretty funny to grab Urbom and then draft Ekblad. Add those guys in with Kanzig and Breen and we have 4 guys where the smallest one is 6'5" and 220.

Remember Brian Burke is now part of our organizational leadership.

He will want our team defense to get bigger since we are really small right now, especially in the top 4.

IMO he would want Breen, Urbom, and O'Brien on the roster if it helps with size and toughness on the backend.

And not sure why people think Butler would need to get waived to make this happen. Smith has already cleared waivers and can be sent down if the team is able to pick up Urbom.

I would be disappointed if Urbom wasn't claimed by the Flames. They traded a 4th round pick for Colborne in a position that wasn't necessarily a need (non-1st line center), might as well get a younger player for free who has a chance of being an upgraded on their bottom pairing down the line.

But I also felt the same with Goloubef, so wont hold my breath.

I also want Breen to be given a shot but i am not sure how long he is out for? He also will need a conditioning stint. Also while the Urbom guy does intrigue me, its not like he is going to come in a steal the 2nd pairing spot.

Smith goes down, Urbom takes Butler spot on bottom pairing, Butler to pressbox. When Breen has finished his conditioning stint, re-evaluate if Urbom is worth keeping or Butler goes to waivers. Urbom can ride pressbox while they give Breen a chance.

Smith being waived means that he can be sent down when Breen comes off the IR. If we pick up Urbom then when Breen comes off the IR we will have too many people again.

Yeah, I'm just saying that Butler could be a better fill in for a top 4 injury than SOB, Breen or Urbom. Then again, maybe one of those big guys will surprise us.

I thought Breen was skating? It didn't sound like he was very far away from returning. If he isn't very close then waiving Smith was premature. Did the rules change about waiving a player? Don't we have a timer running to do something with Smith (within the next 10 days or something) before having to put him on waivers again to send him down?

I'd pick up Urbom. Would not be shocked to see either him or Eager picked up by the Flames. Urbom gives us size on the back end and would possibly allow us to get rid of SOB (please)

I agree.

As for Eager, he is one oncussion from retirement, even past that point already.

Healthy he is one of the best tough guy actual players and can definately take a regular shift. If you want him to fight though, he wont last the season unless he just hugs after dropping the gloves, thereby affecting his usefulness.

I recall that several posters here were hoping that the Flames would select Tedenby at the 2008 draft.

New Jersey ended up picking him with the 24th pick, however, and Calgary took Greg Nemisz with the 25th.

10 games or 30 days, I think.

Urbom seems like a good pickup, would be happy with that.

Eager does not improve the team in any way - a waste of a roster spot.

However, Urbom is another seedling in an area where we are thin.

Someone wouldneed to teach him to fight a little better if we grab him.

Hope we do. Urbom and Breen as a third pairing.

I really like this kid. I think he's a lot better than some of the guys we have right now (or at least better then they were last year). When will we know if we've picked him up?

Would rather we put a big stronger d-man with the smaller puck-moving D-men.

Brodie- Urbom/Breen
Russell-Urbom/Breen/O'Brien
