Maybe Hartley will have to give the young guys some time because we don't really have any "stars" to hide behind. I'm just saying I've never been a fan of his and I don't think he's the kind of coach you want in charge of a team rebuilding.

Where was i calling for Hartley's head? Once again way over board with your post.

I pointed out a fact. He is on record saying he likes to play his vets.

Do you know where I can get a Butler/O'Brien D-Pair costume? Want to scare the hell out of kids this Halloween

I like the mix of the Backlund line. Only potential issue is getting pushed around a bit.

The Monahan line looks good on paper, but a complete toss up in the game. Excited to watch though.

I can't wait to see how many televisions are in pieces spread across the lawns of Calgarians after seeing a Butler and O'brien pairing. It should be interesting.

I'd probably switch Russell with SOB or Butler. That 2nd pairing scares me.

Has there been any word on a starting goalie for the first game?

One significant thing changed in the last month. Hartley has a new boss.

I don't expect anything earth shattering in the first game of the season but I am sure that it will be expected that Hartley shows progression with the young players on the team.

If Monahan turns out to be our best faceoff guy, I highly doubt that your are correct about him being kept off of the PK. Winning faceoffs is too huge of a factor of a successful PK.

It really is to early to harp on the coach. You guys have thrown him into the street before there is even a bus for him to go under. Hartley has effectively used rookies in the past and I doubt he is blind to the direction of the team.

Its time to set reasonable expectations. The rookies will get sheltered minutes to start and Monahan in particular will likely get tested in secondary special team duties to see if he should stay with the Flames past his 9 game stint. As the season progresses, expect their roles to gradually increase until the trade deadline when we likely lose a veteran or 3.

What do you mean once again?

You're right, you weren't calling for his head. Maybe he has said he likes to play his vets but like someone just posted, we have no stars to hide behind anymore. We are in a full rebuild. What other option does he have? Can you imagine the uproar if he didn't give sven any PP time.

I just think people should give him a chance now that we're officially in rebuild mode and starting a fresh season, before criticizing who he's giving ice time to. I like him, he is optimistic and positive but high on hard work and accountability.

Brossoit sent to Alaska.

I guess players will be motivated extra hard this year so they aren't sent to the ECHL.

Better than being sent to the salt mines in Siberia.

He should be used to Alaska in short order though he played his junior career just south and east of that State.

Roger Millions@RogMillions10m
Baertschi and Sean Monahan on a line with David Jones. Very interested in how the kids respond. Monahan says he's nervous. #Flames

Roger Millions@RogMillions9m
Joe Colbourne will NOT play for #Flames in season opener vs Washington.

Roger Millions@RogMillions3m
Lance Bouma back skating today in Wash. Looks like he will play. Hartley not final on lines. Jackman could be healthy scratch. #Flames.

Anchorage is as far from Edmonton as Dallas, TX is.

Hoping for a big game from baertschi to silence the critics. Am kind of excited to see Monahan and baertschi play on a line as well.

Meh, maybe I guess. It's more typical for a goaltender to start his professional career in the ECHL, especially when you're 20 coming from Juniors instead of a little older from Europe. There are 4 goalie spots for an organization in NHL/AHL, that's plenty less then 12 d or 24 forward positions.

If this was a forward it might be a red flag but not a goalie.

4th line needs size. Street doesn't scream size
